Antioch Police responded to a report of a carjacking 11:06 am Wednesday which led police on a mutli-city pursuit before a subject took multiple hostages at the Arco Station on L Street and Buchanan.

The original incident occurred when the suspect hit another vehicle in front of Mikes Auto Body on 10th Street and fled the scene. Officers at that accident located a sawed off shotgun and a few minutes later a carjacking occurred in another city followed by another carjacking in a third city.

Police soon located the vehicle and followed the vehicle from Pittsburg to Balfour Road in Brentwood before ending up back onto Highway 4 through Oakley, Antioch and Pittsburg. The vehicle then went back onto Highway 4 and got off on the L Street exit and into the Arco Gas Station.

When the suspect arrived at the ARCO station, the subject pointed a gun at a CHP officer, the officer responded by firing at the suspect who then barricaded himself inside the station with multiple hostages.

Around 2:30 pm, one of the hostages was released unharmed.

By 3:30 pm, the incident ended with the suspect coming out with his hands up and was detained without incident.

Antioch Police were joined by the California Highway Patrol, Contra Costa County Sheriffs Department with earlier assistance from the Brentwood, Pittsburg and Oakley Police Departments.

Antioch Police Chief Allan Cantando was pleased with the outcome.

“I want to thank all Antioch Police Department staff and the allied jurisdictions for their assistance and professionalism in helping us bring this to a peaceful resolution. There is a lot more work to be done, with multiple crime scenes to process. I am extremely pleased with the outcome of how this situation ended,” said Cantando.

Check back for updates as multiple carjackings occurred, we will also be posting more photos.

It took awhile for things to get so bad here in Antioch, it will take awhile for things to get better. Great job APD and all that supported the effort.
