Antioch: Pit Bull Attacks 6-Year-Old Boy at Antioch Marina

by ECT

On July 14 at 8pm, Antioch Police officers responded to a local hospital for a 6 year old child who was reportedly attacked by a pit-bull while walking with his grandmother near the Antioch Marina.

Police say it was learned that the child was walking ahead of his grandmother on the raised wooden walkway heading towards downtown when a white pit-bull charged him and began attacking him.

The child suffered several wounds to his groin and upper legs. The owner of the dog arrived and fled with the dog towards the Marina.

The Grandmother took the child home and then to the hospital once she saw the severity of the injuries. The child was transferred to a hospital in San Francisco for treatment due his age and need for surgery.

Police say at the time of the report was written, the child had been treated and was admitted for observation. The injuries were not life threatening.

An extensive search was done of the downtown, marina, and surrounding areas using several officers and CCSO Helicopter Star 3 with negative results. A witness was located and she provided a description of the responsible dog and owner who appeared to be homeless.

Animal Control was advised of the incident and will be following up with officers. The search was complicated by the 150+ “Pokémon” players at the Marina and in the downtown area.

No update has been provided on this incident.

Gotta love Antioch and its ghetto ways.

I agree. Put a dog down if aggressive and killing a child.

… Here come the crazy pet owners.

The police are doing a disservice to the community by delaying the reporting of this incident for 12 days. During this lapse, others could have been affected by similar attacks that could have been prevented if made aware. Another example of the importance of getting timely reporting of incidents.

Shouldn’t you be aware of your surroundings–including loose dogs–regardless of how soon or not a crime report is released for you to read it? Or are you always dependent on “official reports” to constantly update you on what to pay attention to in the world around you?

When it concerns the safety of residents and the police are aware of it, then yes, it should be made known as soon as possible. It does not preclude the importance of being aware of one’s surroundings.

One more reason we, as concerned people living in antioch, should be outraged by our police departments recent move to hide under an opaque guise of encryption over public airwaves! When someone is at large or on the run from the law & helicopters are actively searching for a perpetrator, public safety alone dictates that we should have the right to hear what’s happening around us so we can act accordingly…or possibly even add some eyes & ears to the search!

Banning pit bulls in Antioch ,especially by the homeless needs, to be a reality! I dont blame the poor animals!! I see many homeless women walking around with pit bulls. Do they feel protected by having a dog with them? Why are there so many homeless women and man in Antioch! City fathers need to come up with a plan to discourage homelessness. Sorry but like New York City if you are on the streets you get fined and go to jail. Many of them ae drug addicts. We can not afford negative press . The homeless situation is bringing Antioch down. Some of my friends that live down town cant enjoy walking at night by the water because of the homeless hanging out! Do we give our city to people that don’t even pay taxes or contribute anything but misery to our city!

I agree. There needs to be more enforced laws concerning pit bulls and homeless.

Remember that poor little kid that was mauled by a pit and made the news about 6 months ago?

When is it going to stop?
