Antioch: One Dead in Highway 4 Crash

by ECT

At approximately 1:05 am Sunday, Contra Costa CHP received a call of a solo vehicle collision on eastbound Highway 4 in the area of Lone Tree Way in Antioch. Upon CHP arrival, a white Dodge Charger was on the right shoulder of Highway 4 and resting against the exit sign for Lone Tree Way.

The Charger sustained massive intrusive damage which had crushed the entire passenger compartment. The driver sustained massive trauma as a result of this collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Preliminary investigation indicates the Charger was traveling on eastbound Highway 4 in the #2 lane at an extremely high rate of speed, then for unknown reasons the driver made an unsafe turn to the right, lost control of the Charger, veered across all lanes and onto the right shoulder where it struck the embankment and went airborne.

The Charger struck the sign post, crushing the passenger compartment, and then came to rest against the pole.

The #2 lane of Lone Tree Way off-ramp was closed for approximately 1 hour 30 minutes and all lanes were reopened at about 2:45am.
