Antioch Middle School Moves Quickly to Identify Subject Reportedly Harassing Students

by ECT

Just before 7:30 am Friday, Antioch Middle School Principal Lindsay Lopez-Wisely received a report that a male was yelling profanity and harassing students on their way to school.

The incident occurred on E. 18th Street where Antioch High School site safety intervened after the report came in.

“Kids came right the school and informed an adult. They provided a great description of the male who I was told by police it was a transient male,” said Wisely. “Antioch Police tracked him down and we had extra patrols around the campus between our site safety and Strategic Threat Management. It was good teamwork by Antioch High School and Antioch Middle School. Our site safety moved very quickly to ease concerns parents may have.”

Wisely said it was a good reminder to have that conversation with a child to tell staff right away if they are being approached or harassed by any adult.

Here is a copy of the auto dialer that went out:

This is Antioch middle school calling with an important safety announcement. Administration at AMS  has just confirmed that there was an adult male verbally harassing a group of our students on their way to school this morning. The students are safe and the police have identified the person. Please take a moment to review stranger danger with your children and to remind them to never speak to a stranger and always walk in pairs or groups when possible. If your student is every approached by a stranger please remind them to tell a school official or law enforcement officer immediately.  As always, your child’s safety is our number one concern. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have further questions or concerns.

The name of the subject has not been released and its unclear if police made an arrest as of 1:30 pm.
