Antioch: Marijuana Grow House Goes Up in Flames

by ECT

At 6:15 am Tuesday, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters responded to a report of a residential structure fire in the 5400 block of Summerfield Drive off Vista Grande Drive in the City of Antioch.

Antioch Police were first on scene and confirmed the home was unoccupied and smoke was showing.

Firefighters then arrived on scene and made entry to a home charged with smoke and upon making entry located a marijuana grow house that began to catch fire. A bedroom then became engulfed with flames which quickly spread to the attic and roof.

For safety reasons, firefighters moved out of the home and began a defensive attack protecting neighboring homes. As firefighters were putting water on the flames, the roof of the home caved in.

It took PG&E more than 50-minutes to respond to disconnect the power.

Antioch Police have not yet released any information on the marijuana grow.

Why did it take PG&E so long to get there? Wasn’t there a fire department personnel safety issue?

How could you live next door to a grow house and not know it. Seem you would at least smell it, if not be suspect of the behavior of the people who managed it. Are people that blind of their environment or not caring of what is happening in the immediate area? Especially if you have children. Makes one wonder what is happening to our society.
