At roughly 2:14 pm Monday, Antioch police responded to the 400 block of West 19th Street on a report of gun shots heard in the area. Upon arrival officers were advised that an adult male had in fact been shot and that the victim was being transported to the hospital by a friend.
Witnesses reported to officers that a Hispanic male adult approximately 5’ 10” with long brown hair and wearing a gray shirt was seen running from the area immediately following the gun fire. This individual was last seen running towards West 18th but he could not be located.
The 22-year-old victim is being treated at a local area hospital for a non life threatening gun shot wound.
The victim was reportedly working on his vehicle when a bullet struck him in the hip said Antioch police Lt. John VanderKlugt. He added there appears to be no robbery attempt and the gun shots came from a distance away.
As police searched the area with both Antioch High School and Antioch Middle School having a shelter in place order for just under 20-minutes. The shelter in place was precautionary as the shooting had nothing to do with the schools said. Lt. VanderKlugt.
According to police, the victim was unable to identity a shooter.

Editors Note:
During the search for the shooter, Antioch Police were also responding to another incident in the Sycamore area involving multiple subjects who tried to flee the scene upon police arrival. They stopped a cream colored car and found drugs and weapons. The incidents were unrelated.

Of course the gunman escaped. This is Antioch.
