Antioch Gets New Fire Engine for Station 81

by ECT

On Wednesday, Contra Costa County Fire welcomed a new engine that was placed in Station 81 in Antioch. During a brief Housing Ceremony, firefighters honored tradition by pushing the new engine into the station.

Fire Chief Jeff Carman said the new engine was just one of as many as 15 apparatuses they hope to place in the District this year thanks to the support of the Board of Supervisor.

“I like that we have a plan in place in the District to make sure that in the future that we will not run into the problems we have had with equipment and our firefighters will now be using state of the art equipment,” said Carman. “I appreciate the pride and tradition of our firefighters in Contra Costa County. This all happens because

Fire Captain Mike Quesada explained the housing ceremony tradition which dates back to the date of housing old engines which were pushed into stations because they couldn’t back up horses. The tradition stuck.

Captain Greg Sawyer also touched on the memorial on Engine 81 which honors

We have a plaque on Engine 81 that says we will always remember 7-21-07 which two firefighters were killed in the line of duty,” explained Sawyer. “We never want to forget them and we have this plaque so folks who maybe were not here then or new firefighters not working then can look back and remember them. It’s important to us not to ever forget them.

Matt Burton and Scott Desmond were the two firefighters who died while fighting a fire in 2007 in a San Pablo home. Each year, Contra Costa County and neighboring firefighters honor them in a ceremony.

Maybe if they replace the Ladder Truck instead of selling it for pennies on the dollar, they could transfer or donate it to ECCFPD. That would be thinking ahead for both districts.

I’ll tell you what, that Fire Chief that’s pushing the engine by the wheel well, is looking pretty damned fit if you asked me.

Too bad they all don’t have enough self-respect to take care of themselves and look like that.

Thank you BOS of ALL of Contra Costa County for the brand new equipment. We out here on the east side would be greatful for just a fire person. Remember us?? I doubt it.

A priest to bless a fire truck? Yahweh created more fires than put them out in the bible, I wouldn’t trust it.

Hey “Why”
When are you going to figure out that East Co Fire is a SPECIAL District and not part of the County. The BOS have little to no say over your district. It’s yours…own it!
