Antioch: Firefighters Battle Vegetation Fire Along Highway 4

by ECT

At 6:27 pm Tuesday, Contra Costa County Firefighters responded to Highway 4 near the I-160 split for a report of a vegetation fire bumping up against a cement sound wall.

Upon arrival, the fire was estimated at 1.5 acres.

For those coming over the Antioch bridge in the southbound direction, they were impacted as the fire forced drivers to drive through a thick cloud of smoke covering the overpass. Visibility through the thick grey smoke was reduced to zero feet. The fast moving hillside fire raced up the hill along Hwy 4 and came right up to houses on Conte Court.

This is the exact same location of a fire that came close to the same houses last year.

If that’s a shot of what the vegetation looked like before the fire started, then it should have been removed by whoever is cleaning the areas abutting to the freeway.
