Antioch: Firefighters Battle 2-Alarm Apartment Fire, 2 Injured, 1 in Custody

At around 6:05 pm Friday, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters were dispatched to a report of an apartment on fire in the 2100 block of Buchanan Road in the City of Antioch.

While responding to the Elder Winds Apartments, Truck 83 reported smoke showing and upon arrival, reported smoke and flames inside of an apartment that spread from the first floor to the second. It was also reported that a female was inside and began rescue a short time later.

Meanwhile multiple medical oxygen tanks were exploding according to Battalion 5.

Antioch Police were on scene and assisted in evacuating the area while AMR was called to treat at least two people for smoke inhalation.  An East Contra Costa Fire Protection Unit was also dispatched as part of the initial structure response.

Within 15-minutes Battalion 5, who was nearby arrived on scene and called a second-alarm response.

Firefighters then made knockdown on the fire.

It was reported that at least two people were transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation and at the time of the fire, at least 3-people were in the apartment in which 1 person ran and two stayed on scene. One person was taken into custody on charges unrelated to the fire.

As of 8:27 pm, the fire was still under investigation.

Wasn’t there a fire in that area not too long ago and you can still see the damage while driving on Buchanan.
