At 9:48 pm Wednesday,  Firefighters from two district responded to a vegetation fire on Willow Ave and Oakley Road which knocked out power to just over 4,700 people in Antioch and Oakley.

The fire knocked out power to the neighborhoods behind Oak View Memorial Park in Antioch to Empire Ave in Oakley. Power was originally expected to be turned back on by 1:00 am, however, for all but 68-customers, power was restored within an hour.

The incident required response from both Contra Costa County Fire Protection District and East Contra Costa Fire Protection District as the fire spread quickly from a 1/2 acre to 2 acres due to high winds. With additional units responding, the fire was under control within an hour.

At least one transformer blew out which caused wires to go down and spark the field and eventually catching fire.  Antioch Police provided traffic control and closed down a portion of Oakley Road as crews worked.
