At 1:51 am Sunday, Contra Costa County and East Contra Costa firefighters responded to a report of a residential structure fire on Buffalo Ct. in Antioch.

While responding, crews observed a large glow of light in the sky and could see flames coming from the home as they got closer. While on scene, fire crews observed a working fire and immediately called for a second-alarm response.

Firefighters were able to get the home and neighboring homes evacuated without incident according to CONFIRE spokesman Robert Marshall. No injuries were reported as of 4:37 am.

While fighting the fire, flames were observed to be nearly 30-feet high and the structure collapsed forcing firefighters to briefly retreat fire attack; however, no neighboring structures caught fire due to the location of the home at the end of a cul-da-sec.

According to Marshall, the family was saved by a fire alarm that was sounding which helped them evacuate quickly. The fire was caused by a BBQ on the porch and damages were estimated at $450,000.
