On Thursday, the Delta Learning Center celebrated 40-years of service to the community with a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Antioch Chamber of Commerce.
Located in the blue building at 275 W. Tregallas Road, a brief ceremony was held highlighting its history and successes with Congressman Jerry McNerney in attendance, along with representatives from Senator Steve Glazer Office and Assemblyman Jim Frazier’s Office. Antioch City Council members Mary Rocha and Monica Wilson were also in attendance along with Antioch Unified School District Superintendent Stephanie Anello.
Since 1976, the Delta Learning Center’s credentialed teachers have been successfully tutoring academically-challenged and enrichment seeking students in the East County area.
The Center was founded under the direction of Julia “Bess” Combs, a retired school psychologist. Bess saw the need for a professional after-school tutoring program to help students build a solid foundation for success in school and in life. Her vision, combined with the help of the East County community, has provided a wonderful learning center and helped thousands of local students achieve their educational goals by providing quality one-on-one tutoring. Bess was a dedicated Soroptimist, and encouraged multiple Soroptimist clubs throughout the Bay Area to become involved with the Delta Learning Center. Soroptimists, Kiwanis, Lions, Rotarians, Antioch Unified School District, the City of Antioch, Chevron, Dow Chemical, Bernard E. & Alba Witkin Charitable Foundation, Thomas J. Long Foundation, and many other organizations have continued to support her dream.
In celebration of providing 40 years of exceptional educational services to Contra Costa County residents, David Madrigal, President, and DLC’s Board of Directors will be honoring former board members, donors, tutors, and students. Stop by DLC on Thursday, October 6th to tour our specifically designed facility, get to know the board members, meet the faculty, and enjoy light refreshments. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony begins at 5 pm.
The Delta Learning Center is a 501.C.3 non-profit tutoring organization, and has recently been awarded a continuing grant by the Dean and Margaret Lesher Foundation. If you are looking for a way to support the education of local students, please consider contributing to the DLC scholarship program.
DLC offers one-on-one tutoring with credentialed teachers to students of all ages, kindergarten through adult.
