Antioch: Contra Costa Labor Council Endorses Mayor Wade Harper

by ECT

Antioch, CA – Mayor Wade Harper announced Tuesday that he has earned the endorsement of the Contra Costa AFL-CIO Labor Council for his November re-election bid. The Contra Costa AFL-CIO Labor Council represents 75 affiliated local unions and 85,000 Contra Costa working families.

After a thorough evaluation, critique and review of all of the candidates through the extensive endorsement process Harper came out on top. The interview committee, executive board and delegate body of the Labor Council determined that Harper is the best candidate to represent working families.

Citing Harper’s proven leadership during the recession, and his experience as a police association president and current teacher, Harper is the candidate best positioned to advocate for budgets and programs that will benefit all Antioch working families. “Wade Harper is a tested and proven leader who has demonstrated a commitment to working families and a solid understanding of labor issues,” said AFL-CIO President Steve Older. “After the questionnaire and interviews, it was clear that Mayor Harper was the candidate who understands city policy, has effective leadership and an overall plan to move the
city of Antioch forward.”

Harper spent most of his career as a member of a police officers association, serving for a period as association president. With this unique experience Harper shares the values of the Central Labor Council, city employees and Antioch working families. Harper believes in justice and fairness in the workplace, and led the charge to end the 5 ½ years of employee work furloughs. Harper refused to lay off police officers, and instead led the Measure C campaign to fund the hiring of police officers and code enforcement officers.

The AFL-CIO will begin actively campaigning to support Mayor Harper’s re-election. “It is indeed an honor to have the endorsement of the Central Labor Council. As we celebrate Labor Day, I want to thank all of the hardworking men and women who keep our city running. I want to thank the men and women who repair our streets, build, paint and maintain our buildings and houses. I believe in recognizing the contributions of all workers and rewarding work. We don’t say thank you enough.”

Why would they do that? Makes them look as bad as Harper. Not smart.

All of the endorsements in the world won’t help him now.

Is this how he won the previous election?

Of course, he goes along with anything. Disgusting.

No Reginald he won the last election because 3 people ran for mayor and split the vote. If only 2 had run no matter if it had been Mr. Agopian or Mr. Freitas he would NOT have won. It will be worse this year and he most likely will win again. God help us. It just cannot happen.
