The Antioch City Council will receive a report tonight on the Clothing Donation Boxes placed around the City of Antioch.
The report came at the request of concerned Antioch residents who have noted dumping around the containers and/or “break-ins” resulting in donation materials being strewn around the immediate areas.
Recent media reports highlight that some companies placing these boxes are for profit business that give the impression that 100% of the donations support non-profit charities.
According to the Staff Report, Antioch does have the ability to abate donation boxes that are not in compliance with the Municipal Code under Property Maintenance Ordinance where the violations should be reported to the Code Enforcement Division.
The city is currently in the process of identifying and removing donation boxes that may be located on City property. In addition, if not all, of the newer donation boxes in town did not receive an Administrative User Permit. Staff will now enforce the Code as resources allow with the first priority is life/safety complaints and vacant/abandoned property.

These boxes must be eliminated. I am sick and tired of seeing this stuff scattered all over. There are chairs, mattresses, refrigerators, couches to say nothing about clothes. I understand these are “for profit” groups also. They are a big expense to the city and many citizens who are cleaning them up themselves. The one in this picture may be the one on Delta Fair and if it is it has been scattered over half the parking lot.
Come on City of Antioch lets help ourselves on this one and immediately get those boxes out of town.
There is a green one for books also that gets tossed all over lets get rid of that one also.
If the boxes are causing more harm than good, then they should be eliminated. I agree with Julio.
Just take them out and quit wasting our money discussing BS! Start crossing your T’s and dotting I’s in the first place Antioch City Council so then you won’t have to keep fixing all your pot holes!
Unsightly as those drop off boxes our, they serve a great service for the kind people that donate goods. It’s unfortunately that the low rent jerks won’t pick up after themselves when they take the free sweater
Just as easy to drive to Salvation Army or other local drop off places. The stuff that is put in the blue boxes is shipped overseas. There was a presentation by Lori Cook at the council meeting about what money makers these boxes are. Not non-profit but money makers.
Noted,my bad
