Antioch Chamber of Commerce Announces 2015 Youth of the Year Awards

The Antioch Chamber of Commerce has announced Antioch High School student Treyvon Hall as its 2015 Youth of the Year Award winner while Savannah Vanderzwan was the runner up.

Also nominated were Aimie McGoldrick (Antioch High School) and Lucas Stuart-Chilcote (DLMHS).

According to the Antioch Unified School District, Treyvon Hall and Savannah Vanderzwan are both 11th grade students were recognized for their work with fellow students.

Hall works with students who are in conflict in order to find a non-violent and satisfying resolution to the conflict. AHS administration states that suspensions are down over 25% this year over last year –something they say Treyvon definitely had a hand in.

Vanderzwan will be recognized for her work with special needs students. Last year, Savannah created the Buddy Club which paired special needs students with other students at Antioch High School. The students eat lunch together, attend events and, recently, attended the Special Olympics together –with AHS students cheering on their special needs friends.

Earlier this week, the Chamber of Commerce announced that Ken Turnage II is the 2015 Citizen of the Year–Most Impact. Meanwhile, Jane Parsons has been named the Citizen of the Year–Lifetime Achievement.

The other winners of the 2015 awards are:  Large Business of the Year, Sutter Health Medical Center; Small Business of the Year, M.A.L.U. Fitness; Nonprofit of the Year, Antioch Rotary Club.  The Youth of the Year winners will be announced at the event.

The Antioch Chamber of Commerce Inaugural Gala will be held on Friday, March 11th, 6 PM at the Lone Tree Golf & Event Center, 4800 Golf Course Road in Antioch.
