Shortly before 3:00 pm Friday, Antioch Police closed off traffic at the Highway 4 underpass on Cavallo Road between Sunset and E Tregallas due to a suspicious package that required a response from the Walnut Creek Bomb Squad and their robot.
According to police, the item was a flashlight made out of piping which was detonated by the robot and caused a loud explosion. Upon inspection, the item remained intact after the blast. Upon further review by the bomb squad, it was a pipe with a bunch of wires and a flashlight head.
The bomb squad said “all safe” and the lanes reopened.
