Antioch and Brentwood Police Nab Carjacking Suspect After Highway 4 Pursuit

At approximately 11:45 am Thursday, Antioch Police Officers spotted a stolen vehicle near Somersville in the City of Antioch and began pursuit when ended at John Muir Hospital in the city Brentwood with a suspect in custody.

The pursuit was in relationship to an armed carjacking that had occurred in the City of Oakland–that time is unknown per police.  Upon spotting the vehicle, an Antioch police officer began pursuit which led multiple police officers to pursue the vehicle on eastbound Highway 4.

Just before 12:00 pm, the suspects entered John Muir Hospital on Balfour Road in the city of Brentwood where one of two men were taken into custody after he was found hiding in a bathroom. That incident caused a brief lockdown of the hospital as the suspect was believed to be armed.

Another suspect, exited the vehicle and went another direction who was also believed to be armed, however, police have yet to locate a firearm used in the crime. The second suspect was not located.

No other injuries have been reported and police are still on scene investigating.

UPDATE via Antioch Police (2:00 pm)

On 9/30/21, at approximately 11:38 AM, Antioch Police Department Officers were advised that a vehicle  taken during an armed carjacking in Oakland was traveling eastbound on Hwy 4 near Somersville Rd. in Antioch.

Officers quickly located the vehicle and attempted to conduct an enforcement stop on it. The vehicle fled at a high rate of speed, leading officers on a pursuit eastbound on Hwy 4. During the pursuit, the stolen vehicle sideswiped an uninvolved vehicle near Laurel Rd.

The pursuit ultimately ended in Brentwood, when the suspect fled on foot into John Muir Hospital at 2400 Balfour Rd. The hospital was evacuated while Officers from Antioch PD, Brentwood PD and the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office conducted a search for the suspect. The suspect was located hiding in a bathroom and was taken into custody without incident. The suspect was identified as a 17-year-old male. He was eventually turned over to the Oakland Police Department.

Yo big ups to some of those cops involved I was around when they got that call on their lunch breaks about to eat and they dropped it all just to respond. I know it’s their job but a lot of people wouldn’t skip their lunch break. I know I’d be pissed hungry/angry
