Antioch: Altercation Over Blocked Driveway Turns into Shooting

by ECT

At 9:59 am Wednesday, the Antioch Police Department responded to the 600 Block of W. 10th for a report of several gunshots fired.

Police immediately shut down the area around W. 10th and G Street as they investigated the shooting where they located several shell casings.

According to Antioch Police Sergeant Tom Fuhrmann, the shooting occurred over a verbal altercation that turned into a physical altercation.

“A vehicle with several occupants pulled up in front of a residence and in the process they were blocking a driveway. The man who lives there came out and got in an argument with the subjects in the vehicle,” explained Fuhrmann. “He went back inside with a handgun. The occupants in the vehicle then got into a physical argument with the subject over the firearm. At some point during the physical, the firearm went off and struck the resident in the foot.”

Fuhrmann said at that point, the occupants of the vehicle piled back into vehicle and fled the scene. The subject shot in the foot then fired several rounds at the vehicle.

Police later located the vehicle with the subjects and they were detained and interviewed.

“The vehicle was struck, but no one was injured,” said Fuhrmann.

A short time after the shooting, the resident of the home showed up at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the foot. He is not in custody and is being treated for his injury.

Fuhrmann stated that police are still investigating and will be presenting the case to the Contra Costa County District Attorney.

Ridiculous that people can’t solve a simple driveway dispute without resorting to violence.
