Antioch: After Rollover Accident, Police Locate 23-Year-Old Male Suffering from Gunshot Wounds

At 12:08 pm Sunday, Antioch Police responded to San Jose Drive and Delta Fair for reports of shots fired and a rollover vehicle accident.

Upon arriving on scene in front of the Mira Vista Apartments, officers located an unoccupied parked vehicle struck after another vehicle was traveling in the westbound direction of San Jose Drive. Police located a second vehicle where Dominique Deonte Watkins, 23 of Antioch, was still inside his vehicle. His mom was outside the vehicle.

Watkins suffered from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso and emergency personnel treated him on scene before transporting him via ground ambulance to a local hospital.

When officers approached Watkins in the hospital, he was talking and could tell offers who he was and that he had been shot. Watkins refused to provide officers any details or assist police in the investigation of the shooting.

According to police, Watkins mother said they recently moved from Oakland to Antioch where Watkins was recently shot and still is recovering from a previous shooting. She was with her son moments before the shooting occurred when she heard the sounds of gunshots being fired.

Police also said Watkins has an extensive police record which includes outstanding warrants for weapons and narcotics.

On 10/19/14 at approximately 12:08 pm, Officers from the Antioch Police Department responded to the area of San Jose Drive and Delta Fair Boulevard on a report of shots fired and a vehicle collision. Upon arrival, Officers observed that an unoccupied parked vehicle had been struck by a vehicle traveling west bound on San Jose Drive.

Officers located the victim, Dominique Deonte Watkins, a 23 year old Antioch resident, still inside the second vehicle. A female, later identified as Watkins’ mother, was standing next to the vehicle upon Officer’s arrival. Watkins was found to be suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper torso. Emergency medical personnel arrived and began treating Watkins. Watkins was transported to a local area hospital where at the time of this writing he remains in critical condition.

When Officers initially contacted Watkins he was able to speak and converse coherently. He was able to identify himself and relay that he had in fact been shot. However, when asked for specifics about the incident, he refused to provide any information or detail to assist in this investigation.

Watkins’ mother informed officers that both she and her son had previously lived in Oakland and recently moved to Antioch. She said that in the later part of September Watkins had been shot in Oakland and was still recovering from that incident. When asked about today’s event she said she had been with her son moments before the shooting and that as she drove away she heard the sound of, what she believed to be, gun shots. Watkins’ mother was noticeably upset and could only provide limited information at the scene.

The preliminary investigation into this incident has revealed that Watkins has an extensive criminal history to include outstanding felony and misdemeanor warrants for narcotics and weapons violations.
