Please Stop the Violence!! Jul 3, 2014 - 12:24 pm

Should have made those senior citizen housing. We would have had a lovely down town. Now we have barber shop fronts, & 11 year olds getting shot. You can full some of us, but not all of us. Praying for the little boy & his family.

So I am not the only one who thinks all these “barber shops” are sketchy.. hmmm interesting.

I wonder if the Mayor will finally admit crime is not benig reduced and its going back up. Mr. Mayor, please respond because you look like a fool saying crime is down 10 minutes after the police chief said crime had increased.

7 people shot last week and now a 11 year old boy? Do your jobs city council

jerone simmons Jul 3, 2014 - 1:30 pm

Not only the police & city council!# its start with us the people!!

Rebecca Laxner Jul 3, 2014 - 2:06 pm

This is why I left Antioch…City council quit passing the buck and own up to the Ghettoness of your town!!!Citizens Unite..

Better things to? Jul 3, 2014 - 7:07 pm

Citizen Unite & I left Antioch are two statements that don’t belong togather. You moved, now go talk about your own towns issues, not ours. Bye!! see ya!! If you’re not paying taxes here then we don’t care to hear you.

Nick Jul 3, 2014 - 10:49 pm

That’s interesting. They don’t know if it’s an accident or a crime, but yet you couldn’t wait to throw in “the ghettoness” of our town? hmm, I wonder who you’re referring to exactly. In any case, since it’s not likely that an 11 year old has “beef” with anyone, I highly doubt this was a case of him getting assaulted. I’m leaning towards accident.

Sooooo soooo sad to see what is becoming of this city……everyday it just keeps getting worse

Just me Jul 3, 2014 - 1:39 pm

Any of you “know it alls” have any magic wands?!?!?! If you do, please run for Mayor and fix everything for us!!! I grew up where this was fairly common in the 50s and 60s. It seems it is the price that is paid for population growth!!!!

Mike Jul 3, 2014 - 2:38 pm

It’s not the population growth that is the problem. Just ax anyone.

lisa Jul 3, 2014 - 7:14 pm

I got that! Love it!

Mike Schneider Jul 3, 2014 - 2:37 pm

I’ve got your magic wand… but it looks a little like a Louisville Sugger, cuz it’s time to stop playing.

I was also born & raised in Antioch, left nearly 11years ago! When I was growing up & through my teen’s there were plenty of activities to be involved with or in, as parents you need to keep your kids active! The council can’t do for you! I’m praying for this child & the family, so very sad! Sending many prayers!!!!!

No more section 8 antioch carries the burden of 30% of contra costas section 8

Julio Jul 3, 2014 - 6:45 pm

Talk to the landlords that rent to Section 8. They bear some responsibility as irresponsible landlords.

Tee Jul 3, 2014 - 7:23 pm

Has nothing to do with section 8 or low income. You have the same result of crime with parents who own their home and parents who have good jobs!

ricky Jul 3, 2014 - 4:25 pm

And the city wants to build more condos downtown. oh wait, I bet this are high-end, up-scale condos.

Michael Jul 3, 2014 - 4:29 pm

I have an idea! How about strong, good parenting?? How about keeping our children away from gang life by getting them into non self-destructive hobbies?? How about fixing poverty, our educational system, and creating jobs?? And how about regular, law-abiding citizens be allowed to carry weapons for the explicit purpose of self-defense????

But no…it’s all gonna be more leftist bullshit “solutions” that are not actually solutions but mandates that are ineffectual at best and detrimental at worse…

Demand that the citizens of Contra Costa County be allowed concealed carry permits…

Dannie Jul 3, 2014 - 6:05 pm

Everyone that’s on Section-8 aren’t bad! Sec-8 is not the problem! There are a lot of people I know that are on Sec-8,who work really hard to take good care of their families, have good jobs&have respectful, well rounded children! You can’t blame everyone who’s on Sec-8 for what’s going on with the crime in Antioch! It’s so easy to point the blame!

Animula Jul 3, 2014 - 6:47 pm

Oh stop blaming section 8 there are serial killers who live in Mansions and child molesters who live in wonderful areas where property value is immaculate so blaming section 8 for crime is like blaming guns for killing people. No it’s PEOPLE I could be a millionaire living in a fancy home and still shoot someone without a problem. Section 8 isn’t to blame its THE PEOPLE. You wanna end violence stop bLaming things and DO something about the violence. Oh you can’t because you can’t stop people from being deranged and psychotic.

Take away the crutch & see how fast they find jobs Jul 3, 2014 - 11:39 pm

The facts are the facts. We did not have shootings until Section 8 people came out here from Oakland, Hayward, Richmond, Vallejo. Deer Valley needed to be filled. It all started with bussing kids from outside schools. Section 8 people were put into new areas to see if they could integrate and learn how to be become better citizens. Guess what, it failed miserably! So all you people on Section 8 defending yourselves give me a break. Low income housing was set up for World War 2 vets coming back from war. What is any of your excuse. It’s just a way of life. I’ve scrubbed toilets, delivered news papers, had multiple jobs at one time and never used that crutch. There is no pride or shame in these people that just breed and repeat the cycle.

Mike Jul 4, 2014 - 1:11 pm

Spot on!

alison Jul 3, 2014 - 7:38 pm

if they put a cap on section 8 then its not up to the landlords–Brentwood has a cap of 2000 and they dont have this problem

Amead Jul 3, 2014 - 10:19 pm

Brentwood does not have a cap on Section 8. It is a Federal program administered by Contra Costa Housing Authority.

Believe Jesus Christ is your savior for your sins. Jesus Christ is God Almighty in the Flesh. This is the Gospel, believe Jesus Christ sprinkled his shed precious blood and died for you and all of your sins on the cross, he was buried and he rose again from the dead three days later from God’s Power and you will be saved and you will go to Heaven forever. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God to where we all deserve death, destruction and judgement in the Lake of Fire from the wrath of God to where we need a savior to save us for our sins forever. By receiving Jesus Christ’s blood sacrifice as full payment for your sins you will be saved forever. It matters not how much you have sinned in the past, in the present and in the future. Once you are saved you are saved forever no matter what. Good works will not ever save you and no one and nothing else will. That is the Gospel and if you believe in the Gospel you are now a Born Again Christian and you are now saved and you will go to Heaven forever and that is the whole truth. Spread the truth. All glory goes to God forever! Praise God! Amen! (John Ch. 3:16, Romans Ch. 3:25, 4:1-6, 5:9, 1 Corinthians Ch. 15:1-4, Ephesians Ch. 2:8-9)

There seems to be a bit of truth in everyone’s comments written above. I agree you can’t blame Section 8. You can fairly state that many families who live in Section 8 housing have a greater chance of getting involved in victimizing others because they have cohorts living right inside their own compound. Not all family members need be involved; however it goes back to the old fact, “If you aren’t part of the solution, you are part of the problem.” Gangs for the most part are not from nice neighborhoods. You don’t see them out defending their turf in that kind of environment. The shooters in the higher percentage of these situations often steel a vehicle or have a hoopty that is not registered or insured. Drugs, alcohol and lack of respect play a big roll in their decision making to become a criminal victimizer; and in many cases their need to follow someone they look up to influence their decisions. Our prisons are full of people who have done just that. Eleven year old kid’s do not understand the dangerous consequences of using a firearm, even if they have no intent of shooting someone. Our youth live in a world where a majority of people feel the violent video games they play has no affect on their decision making in real life. Is there an answer? Respect is a good place to start; for ones self and for others. Blaming the police is silly. They are reactive, not proactive. They don’t usually get there before the crime is committed. It is up to the community to come together with plans to be proactive and make sure law-enforcement and the court system take the concern of the citizens to heart. There has been enough blood shed on Sycamore to send out the necessary alarms that something has to change. I wish I had an answer that could help all of those affected by this harm and hate; but I don’t.
