Amy S. Hilton, a local attorney in Antioch, was recently accepted as a two year member of The American Institute of Family Law Attorneys. She was recognized for her exceptional performance and client satisfaction by the AIOFLA, making their annual Top 10 list of Family Law Attorneys in the state of California.
“It’s affirmation,” Hilton said of the award. “It is an acknowledgement of all the hard work. This doesn’t just happen by chance, this is 20 years of hard work.”
Attorneys who are selected to the “10 Best” list must pass AIOFLA’s rigorous selection process, which is based on client and/or peer nominations, thorough research, and AIOFLA’s independent evaluation. Though Hilton does not know who nominated her, the award is a meaningful acknowledgment of her hard work.
“It’s special when it comes from your peers. From a professional standpoint, having your peers respect you, that says a lot,” said Hilton.
When Hilton’s career first began, she practiced Constitutional Law, but in 2009 she made the switch to Family Law, which she says was a good fit for her.
“I felt like it was my calling. To practice Family Law, you need to have the right mix of aggression and compassion,” said Hilton.
Clients seeking Hilton’s help and services are often involved in emotionally difficult and confusing situations, like divorces and child custody disagreements. During these situations, it is important, Hilton says, that the clients are listened to and a fitting solution is made. Thinking outside the box and being adaptive in order to meet the needs of her clients is essential.
“My clients are everything to me. They need someone who will listen to them. Good Family Law Attorneys will be good listeners. Communication skills are very important. When someone comes in, I really want to solve their problems. Tell me what it is that you want, so I can solve this,” said Hilton.
