All Occupants Safe After Boat Capsizes Near Antioch Marina

by ECT

A water rescue near the Antioch Marina ended successfully Monday evening after emergency responders arrived on scene to find all occupants of a capsized boat on shore and accounted for.

The accident occurred at roughly 5:30 pm where a bass boat was reportedly overloaded with 7 people and capsized after a larger boat passed by sending a wake towards the boat. Instead of turning into the wake, the boat took the wake on the side of the boat causing it to flip over.

Nearby boaters reportedly assisted in helping the folks to shore. Meanwhile, their boat was towed to Fulton Shipyard. Crews were on scene for roughly 2-hours and 28-minutes.

The incident required the response of multiple agencies after it was reported two people were in the water—ultimately, the number jumped to 7 when crews arrived on scene. Responding agencies included Antioch Police, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, American Medical Response, Contra Costa County Marine Patrol, and the US Coast Guard (Rio Vista).

The use of common sense is the same on a boat as driving a car. Some people just don’t bother to think….ever. Glad everyone is safe.
