At 4:17 pm Wednesday, a vehicle collided with a power pole in Antioch knocking out power. As of Thursday morning, power was still out for 217 homes.
The incident occurred after a CHP Officer pulled over a vehicle on Hillcrest near the railroad tracks, as an officer was attempting to make contact with the driver, they took off at a high-rate of speed
According to Antioch Police, the CHP officer did not pursue the vehicle for safety reasons as the vehicle was estimated to be driving at speeds of 80-mph. Shortly after taking off from the officer, the vehicle crashed at Hillcrest and S. Lake Drive.
The vehicle crashed and overturned after he got “airborne” on a hill and crashed into a yard taking out a fence, crashing into another vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle, who has not yet been identified, exited the vehicle and began running from the scene. He was arrested a few blocks away.
According to PG&E, they are estimating that power will be restored by 7:00 am.
