At 7:20 am Sunday, the Pittburg Police Department received a report of a male struck by gunfire and was on E 12th Street in the City of Pittsburg.
Originally, Pittsburg police received a report of fireworks at approximently 7:15 am and by 7:20 had reports of the gunfire that had occurred in the area of E 10th Street and Railroad. Police located a male victim who had been struck in the upper leg.
Upon further investigation, police located several shell casings at the Valero Gas Station and in total recovered 40 casings in that area. Police also located one vehicle (SUV) involved with evidence of an exchange of gunfire between two vehicles. Police also located additional casings inside the vehicle. They also located a casing down the roadway near La Hacidenda Restaurant and it was later reported LaRaza Market’s front door was hit by the exchange of gunfire. Multiple shell casings also located at 10th and Railroad.
According to preliminary information, two groups of people exchanged gunfire where a black SUV carried three individuals which two got out and began firing on another vehicle. In response, the passenger of another vehicle got out and began firing back. At least one person was struck in the exchange.
The subject was transported at an area hospital.
Pittsburg police are still on scene investigating the incident and no additional information has been released.
