Antioch Chamber Gives First Chamber Cares Donation to Opportunity Junction

by ECT

Antioch, CA – The Antioch Chamber of Commerce held a fundraising golf tournament over the summer to raise money to give back to Antioch businesses in a new program called “The Chamber Cares.”

The Chamber Cares program allows the Chamber CEO Sean Wright to visit Antioch businesses that have recently been hit with vandalism with a check for $500 to help defray the costs of clean up, fix up and repair.  The first recipient of the program is a local non-profit called Opportunity Junction.  This wonderful Antioch non-profit spends it resources helping motivated Contra Costa job seekers develop the skills and confidence to launch careers that lead to financial security.  Whether they are looking to enter a career in healthcare or administration or something else, Opportunity Junction believes that everyone who is willing to work hard deserves an opportunity to succeed.  Since 2010, graduates of the OJ program have earned more than $80 million to help their families create self-sustaining employment.

Recently Opportunity Junction has been a repeated target of vandals who have broken the front windows with BB guns, bricks, and rocks.  Each occurrence cost vital resources that are used to support families and teach the skills needed to become self-sufficient.  The Antioch Chamber of Commerce was happy to visit Opportunity Junction with a check for $500 to let them know that the business community appreciates their work and wants to help them overcome the needless vandalism.  The Antioch Chamber of Commerce cares.

Alissa Friedman, the President and CEO of Opportunity Junction said, “On behalf of all of us at OJ, I want to express my deepest gratitude for your recent donation.  Dealing with repeated vandalism at our office has been demoralizing, to be candid, and to be selected for a donation to help defray the costs by The Chamber Cares program means a lot to us.  It means we have a partner as we work to reopen and serve the expected surge of job seekers.”
