3 Dogs, 4 Cats, 8 Rats Killed in Pittsburg House Fire

by ECT

At 9:19 pm Friday, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters responded to a report of smoke and flames coming from a home in the 400 block of E 9th Street in the City of Pittsburg.

While responding, they began receiving multiple calls of smoke and reports of flames visible through the windows of the home after the homeowner had just left–they believed it was a pot on the stove.

When units arrived on scene, crews made forced entry where they found a home charged with smoke and flames coming from the kitchen.

While crews began a fire attack, they located several animals in the home. They pulled multiple dogs, cats as well as rats to the street and began attempting to make life saving efforts and began animal CPR on the dogs and cats.

Sadly, 3 dogs, 4 cats, and 8 rats passed away.

According to the Battalion Chief, it appears the fire started from a stove malfunction which caught the stove on fire which spread to the rest of the kitchen which charged the house quickly with smoke. The homeowner had left for the store when the fire broke out. She had returned within 30-minutes.

No further information was available.

They have a Go fund me. The homeowners birthday was the day before the fire and their wedding is the day after. Please donate they are wonderful, loving people who fostered and cared for animals, lift people up in the community and have gone through so much hardship. Please think good thoughts for them and consider donating to help them recover.

R.I,P. animals at the mercy careless, mindless humans. I hope they never get any more pets. Who is that stupid to leave their house with a cooking pot on the stove? Someone under the influence.

I know these individuals, and there were no drugs involved. Fire was unintentional and they lost nearly all their children and possessions

I agree. I hope she gets prosecuted for criminal negligence. May she be haunted forever by the ghosts of her pets. Sick b*tch!

These are the kindest people I know and they care for their pets as if they were their children. They provided excellent care to all their animals and provided them with such a loving home. It was not caused by a pot on the stove. How dare you be so hateful and judgemental to these people who you don’t even know who suffered such a great loss. So easy to hide behind your words posted on the internet. Shame on you.

There was no unattended stove.
The fire was not caused by negligence.
Most/all of the animals were rescues because rehabilitating abused animals that’s what she does with her life.
And this happened the week of her wedding.
You don’t know anything about her or her life.
She is a better person and does more good than you could ever hope to.

May you be haunted by those words if something so terrible happens to you. Accidents happen and shitting on people mourning is so low.

Hi! The article is incorrect – there was no pot. That was the initial theory once they found the fire started in the kitchen, but upon further investigation they believe that our dog turned the stove on and a cardboard box caught on fire. We almost never leave the animals alone, and Bear has never turned the stove on before, so this wasn’t something we ever anticipated.

However, let’s pretend for a moment that we had left a pot on the stove – because it happens all the time. It’s the most common cause of kitchen fires. It happens because humans are messy, forgetful, imperfect creatures. Every single human on the planet makes stupid, obvious mistakes. Most of the time they’re just that. Stupid. But sometimes the worst outcome happens, and tragedy strikes.

I hope you both never experience that. I wouldn’t wish our pain on anyone, and I couldn’t even imagine how much worse we would feel if we’d left a pot on the stove. I sincerely hope that if either of you ever make a stupid, tragic, mistake, that you are met with compassion and empathy. There is enough cruelty in this world already. (:

Hi! First of all, we didn’t leave anything on the stove. That was the initial thought by the firefighters when they noticed the fire started in the kitchen. After further investigation, it’s believed one of our dogs turned the stove on and a cardboard box caught on fire. Believe me when I say we will never be in a position for that to happen again. Our next stove is electric and has knobs on the top, firmly out of reach, and we’re adding a doggy door (we couldn’t in the last house).

Second of all, fuck you. (:

Your comments on a family you know absolutely nothing about during the worst situation imaginable are incredibly cruel and ignorant.

And third, accidents happen. Even if we *had* left something on the stove, I can’t even imagine showing up and being this fucking awful to complete strangers dealing with such a traumatic and heartbreaking event. People aren’t perfect. People aren’t robots. Shame on you both.

It was not caused by an unattended pot, that was the initial speculation. it was caused by a fault in the oven. And those animals were almost all rescues because helping to rehabilitate and house formerly abused animals is her life’s calling.
You don’t know her.
You could never hope to be as good a person as her.
Shame on you

There are no rats in Pittsburgh. They all are in Baltimore. The mayor smelled them.

Horrid fucking comments, house fires are real, and they happen so much accidentally. I give my heart out to this family and their lost loved pets, may you have the strength to get past this horrible time and be able to not be afraid of loving or finding animals those in need of homes. Again, they are normal people like you and me and this horrible tragedy has ruined their beautiful home and hurt their family. RIP and love to them.

I wouldn’t be surprised if these sickos killed their pets on purpose. Have you look at their GoFundMe? Sick! Either way, they endangered these pets lives. As a strong independent black lesbian, I say they should be investigated! They should be prohibited from ever owning pets again.
