At roughly 2:44 pm Monday, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District crews responded to a report of a man floating down the Contra Costa County Canal at Deer Valley and Wildflower Drive in Antioch.
By 2:50, the man was alive and out of the water.
According to radio traffic, police had the man on a rope and he was secured. One crews initiated and completed the rescue, the man was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. Crews were on scene for 34-minutes.
Captain Robert Marshall credited Antioch Police with getting a rope to the man quickly who was reportedly holding a tree branch in the canal.
“We arrived on scene to find they threw a rope to the man that he was holding on to,”explained Marshall. “Our guys cut through the fence, secured him within a matter of minutes and pulled him out.”
He noted that if it wasn’t for police quick actions, it could have turned out differently with the water moving 10-11 mph which is fast in terms of water flow.
No further details are available at this time as to how the man ended up in the canal, but Marshall did add that one would have to make an effort to get near it.

scared? probably using their smarts not to have another person fall in till fire arrived, and since u all ready had him on a belt what else did u expect them to do?
Just based on your grammar and spelling alone I’m not surprised you not at work on a Monday at 2:44 PM. But what’s a man doing with two belts on his pants? Or do you just keep a spare with you?
Maybe fishing for strippers or just body surfing down the canal. Good job APD and CF
Well, Juan just ruined my thoughts of him being such a great, humble, caring person…….
