by ECT

At 4:37 am Monday, Contra Costa County Fire responded to a report of a roof fire in the 700 block of Stoneman Avenue.

Upon arrival, Battalion Chief 8 reported that there was smoke and flames showing from the home. Shortly after arriving on scene, he called for a second alarm response after a giant tree near the home caught fire and threatened a neighboring home.

IMG_1530The home was determined to be vacant and firefighters went into defensive fire attack and were able to protect neighboring homes while fighting a strong wind in the process.

At 5:15 am, the fire was deemed under control per CONFIRE.

The fire timer was cancelled after 70-minutes and heavy mop up by firefighters was required. The incident also closed Stoneman Avenue between Park Place and Rolling Hills Drive as crews were working the scene.

Pittsburg police were also on scene providing traffic control.

As of 6:00 am, firefighters were still on scene and the fire is still under investigation.

Thank you for being one of the only organizations to properly report the home as vacant instead of abandoned. It was about to be remodeled and a contractor was reported to be preparing for the work.
