The Pittsburg Police Department on Thursday announce its new “Exchange Zone”; a place to meet for private party transactions such as those made using Craigslist or other classified ads.
According to Captain Ron Raman, the zone was designed as a safe alternative to other meeting locations.
“This is an effort to provide a safe environment for our residents to conduct exchanges. Something several departments across the country are doing and it has proven to be effective,” said Captain Raman.
The “Exchange Zone” is a well-lit, designated parking area located in front of the Pittsburg Police Department and is under 24-hour video surveillance. Although police officers will not be present during transactions, they believe arranging to meet in this designated area will potentially deter individuals wanting to engage in criminal activity.
Additionally, using the “Exchange Zone” helps citizens maintain a level of privacy by not disclosing the location of their homes. The police department is encourage all citizens to utilize the “Exchange Zone” when conducting private party transactions.
“Your safety is our priority,” said Raman.
