On Saturday, Lumpy’s Diner held its 7th Annual Car Show and Burger Eating Contest where the event helped raise funds for the Special Kids Foundation.

The event had an increased attendance and an overflow of cars which was limited to 80, however, more than 100 were on display. The event featured many vendors, a kids zone and a petting zoo.

This was the first Car Show and Burger Eating Contest since the passing of Jeremy “Lumpy” Sturgill which brought out emotions for many, including Lumpy’s mom Kathy Sturgill.

“It was important for this night and day to go on, I want to thank all of you,” said Kathy Sturgill. “It was beautiful, when I got up this morning I didn’t know how I was going to come here today, but when I saw all of you and how hard Marci and Gena, the staff worked, the car clubs to make this day go on, it was so beautiful. All I can think about was my sons dream.  I want to thank you all.”

Marci Sturgill, who has said for months that “the show will go on” to carry on her late-husbands dream thanked everyone for their support.

“From my family, I can’t thank you enough for being out here. When I woke up this morning I wasn’t quite sure how I would make it through the day, but I have a great support system and have a great community around me and we could not have done this without any of you so thank you so much,” said Sturgill. “Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

During the burger eating contest, a winner was crowed after Molly had eaten a total of 19 1/2 burgers in a period of 12-minutes. She was one of two females who had entered the competition.

In the kids competition, Joseph became a third-time winner.  It was his final year of eligibility as he is 12-years-old.

The winner of the adult competition received $1,000 while 2nd place took home $250 and third placed received $100.

According to Lisa McBride, of The Special Kids Foundation, she was grateful for the support and stated totals of funds being raised are expected within two-weeks as they tally up totals.
