Leer Vineyards Says It’s Up for Sale

by ECT

Leer Vineyards, a destination vineyard in Byron, has announced this week that it is up for sale.

Leer-heroic-RedThe Leers announced in a press release that they are selling the winery in order to spend more time with family and take care of their son.

Here is a copy of their press release:

Stefan and Tanisha Leer would like to announce that Leer Vineyards is currently up for sale. We have built something amazing here in Byron, which is why, this was such a difficult decision. Buying this vineyard and turning it into a successful event venue while making fantastic wine has been incredibly rewarding. Consequently, Heroic Red just won Double Gold in the San Francisco Chronicle’s Wine Competition! We were welcomed into this community with open arms by wonderful people that became loyal customers. We want to be transparent with the community and our supporters so that everyone understands why we are making this decision and to be reassured that we will continue business as usual until sold.

Every concert, wedding, private party, and event will be honored. We will continue to book events and when we get a buyer we will make sure to add those events to the details of the sale. If we are living out of the area, and the buyer chooses, Stefan and I pledge to come back to see these events through. It is our hope that we will find someone that wants to continue what we have built here. Big name country singers are learning about this area and want to play here! Offering such amazing concerts to the members of this community and surrounding areas is a huge deal. We have worked incredibly hard to get to this point and pray that someone else will simply continue to build this business into a bigger better venue.

When we moved to this vineyard we did not have our little angel Keegan. Once he came into the picture it became more difficult for Tanisha to help in the tasting room and run events. Living on the property makes it difficult to leave work and head home for some rest and relaxation. Stefan also has three older children that live in Texas and he used to go every other weekend to see them. This line of work has taken away from our weekends and he doesn’t get to Texas half as much as he use to. Starting Vine + Grain in The Streets of Brentwood also took a large amount of our time. We have recently sold our half of that bar and have decided that the best thing for our family is to sell the vineyard, downsize and spend more time with our little one because they are only little once and for such a short period of time.

Over the last several months we have stepped back from the vineyard and the bottom line is that this place thrives when we are here pouring our hearts into it. We did that in the beginning and owe our faithful customers that much. Unfortunately we cannot give that much anymore. We are hopeful that we will find the person who can! Until that happens we will continue to put on events, Wine Down Fridays and concerts. You will see more of both of us around the vineyard and we will continue to create a fun environment for everyone who comes out. We are committed to this community until this vineyard is no longer ours that is our promise!

Not surprising. Overpriced wine, terrible service, and not friendly people

Jennifer Jan 21, 2016 - 11:01 am

Good! We need more wine producers to close up shop. We need less drugs on our streets, including wine! Think of the children!

Ted Jan 28, 2016 - 9:22 pm

Wine a drug? You need to be educated

Jennifer Jan 29, 2016 - 5:24 pm

Ted, please educate us. What is a “drug” to you? According to dictionaries and common sense, drugs alter your mind. Most people drinking wine aren’t doin so for vitamins, they’re doing so to alter their minds.

Good riddance. I’ve heard many a horror story about their involvement in the community.

Jennifer Jan 21, 2016 - 2:10 pm

I like a glass of fine wine now and then. Needless to say, I’m not the same Jennifer as above. I like wineries, and I’m not aware of their reputation one way or the other.

To be consistent we should not be promoting any type of drug on this site, socially acceptable or not. Our children can access these promotional articles too you know? This site is a constant mouthpiece for the prohibition agenda of other drugs, why not wine? It’s already statistically provable that alcohol results in far more deaths than even all illegal drugs combined. If you’re going to shame one drug, shame them all!

Noelle Caruso Davis Jan 22, 2016 - 10:09 am

Why are some referring to drugs with this vineyard? What am I missing?

Concerned Citizen Jan 22, 2016 - 9:42 pm

Is wine not a mind altering substance? Just because this society advertises it and has it available almost at every turn doesn’t erase the fact that it results in more deaths than all other illicit substances combined. For consistency sake and for the sake of our children, stop hypocritically promoting alcohol culture!

Noelle Caruso Davis Jan 22, 2016 - 10:11 am

Why are people associating drugs with this vineyard?? I don’t get it, what am I missing?

EastCountyToday Jan 22, 2016 - 10:51 am

Some people are not fans of a “wine” column and make the bizarre comparison of wine to marijuana.

Concerned Citizen Jan 22, 2016 - 9:40 pm

Wine, like all alcoholic substances, is a mind altering substance and therefore a drug. The issue being addressed is that this site is a mouthpiece for the prohibition agenda of other drugs yet hypocritically advertises wine on here. Our children can obviously access this site and be egged on to try alcohol. If alcohol prohibition were still in effect, you’d be an accomplice to a crime by making these lists available.

Good luck to Stefan and Tanisha. We have had very enjoyable times at your winery, wine tasting and attending your events. Thanks for bringing this to our area and best of luck to you and your family. We love the Heroic Red and hats off for donating to the Military Warriors Foundation. Pete and Jo Ann

Well said!

Leer Jan 22, 2016 - 9:42 pm

Love bozos who hide behind a “made up” name… Horror stories with their involvement in the community??? Leer Vineyards has partnered in awarding mortgage free homes to wounded heros that have fought for our freedoms! Over priced wines ??? That person must love the mass produced two-buck-chuck…. These peeps are exhausting!

EastCountyToday Jan 22, 2016 - 10:43 pm

@Leer, you do not need to defend yourself to some. You have build a strong name based on productivity, not Monday morning QB on the internet. Double gold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Awesome Concerts!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wish you guys well on your next journey!

carrie Jan 29, 2016 - 5:21 pm

hey ECT what happened to objective reporting? Not all these opinionated interjections towards some of your commentators’ posts. It ruins credibility. At least feel grateful some people post on here at all, even if they aren’t of your same opinion.

gina Feb 11, 2016 - 3:01 pm

Always had a lovely time at both your business. You have always been professional, friendly, and inviting. Wishing you the best.

Great Wine best of Luck! The ridicules, and the stupid. Proof Marijuana causes brain damage.

Concerned Citizen Jan 23, 2016 - 11:29 am

Until someone can address the hypocrisy of promoting alcohol culture while deriding other mind altering substances, the apparent brain damage rests with you. So far you’ve only given lip service to the status quo.

Alcohol/wine has no medicinal value, results in more health related deaths, drunk driving deaths and domestic violence issues than all other drugs combined, regardless of Antioch’s criminal issues with growing too much marijuana. Use your head and realize those that criticize your opinions are not all weed smokers BTW. For gods same think of the children!

victoria Jan 24, 2016 - 9:03 pm

Its sad they are selling, drugs has nothing to do with wine! Best of luck Leers! Victoria Vineyards.

Concerned Citizen Jan 25, 2016 - 5:00 pm

Victoria, wine is a legal, socially acceptable mind altering substance. A drug. It doesn’t matter that you can’t go anywhere without it being advertised to you or that Jesus was said to have made some. It’s a drug that results in more deaths than any other illicit substance and results in domestic violence issues worldwide. Don’t be a willing hypocrite: http://www.cdc.gov/features/alcohol-deaths/

Anon Too Jan 26, 2016 - 9:45 am

I’d bet there were more issues caused by Prohibition…people are going to do what they want with little regard for the legality.

Ted Jan 28, 2016 - 9:17 pm

I didn’t know wine was a drug. I guess that means beer is a drug to. According to some people wine is a gateway drug that leads meth. Are you people really that retarded what kid is going to try and acess alone afford wine, I would think any kid would rather just get their hands on beer or something rather then wine. I drank a beer once should I go to rehab. Everybody hide you wine you drug addicts!

Concerned Citizen Jan 29, 2016 - 11:05 am

Anything that alters consciousness is a drug. Wine and beer alter consciousness and therefore are drugs. Ever heard of a DUI? Ever heard of people committing crimes while drunk? Itdoesn’t matter that they are legal beverages advertised EVERYWHERE we all go. Many children bring alcohol to schools, usually masked in water/soda bottles. Many peoples are addicted to alcohol and ruin their lives, their families lives, and must attend rehab gathering such as AA. You have your head in the sand of you want to act like alcohol/beer/wine have clean slates. Living in the post-Prohibition era grants you some ignorance, I suppose.

But you are correct that it’s about the abuser and not the substance. In that sense though we should legalize cannabis and stop locking up citizens that aren’t harming anyone. This also goes for other drugs, yet will offend many PC ears. Or does your hypocrisy have no room to follow your logic through?

East County Wine Maker Jan 28, 2016 - 9:43 pm

Concerned citizen should be concerned about their own being. The last I looked the DEA does not enforce regulations on the wine industry and I have never seen kids bringing bottles of wine to school to pass around. If you are concerned about the children stop taking them to Mc Donald’s for the happy meal. I hate to tell you that surgar is the number one addictive substance in this country and the number one killer of people. Substance abuse is all about the abuser not the substance. Wine does not kill people, the irresponsible action of people kill people. I would like to thank Leer for their involvement in the community and all they do for our heroes. Keep up the good work East County Today.

Ted Jan 29, 2016 - 10:59 am

Exactly, so decriminalize cannabis already

Concerned Citizen Jan 29, 2016 - 3:16 pm

East County Wine Maker, it’s okay to point out the hypocrisy of our drug laws without hurting your business. There are plenty of brewers/wine makers that also agree that the drug war is a failure and hypocritical. You can say this while still sipping your alcoholic beverage. It just amazes me and others that any challenge to the status quo is met with personal attacks, silence, or repeated posts. But that’s a symptom of the drug war programming we’ve received since Nixon. It’s time America stayed true to its roots and questioned the norm.

Nick Feb 1, 2016 - 9:58 pm

Concerned Citizen, we get it. You’re entitled to your opinion, and others are as well. If you don’t like wine, stay off of wine threads. Find something else to do, and quit irritating the heck out of others. You’re a pain in the butt. This isn’t your website, and ECT can promote anything they want to, including wine (and wineries).

Concerned Citizen Feb 3, 2016 - 12:17 am

Nick, I love wine. I actually get a kick sometimes reading these posts while I’m sipping a glass of red. It would just be satisfying to me and other readers for someone to finally admit on here that wine/alcohol is a drug.
