Firefighters Rescue Dog, Prevent Antioch House Fire

by ECT

At roughly 2:12 pm, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to a residential fire on W. 8th Street in Antioch after a fire alarm was activated and smoke was showing upon arrival to the scene.

Fire crews were set to make entry into the home when they noticed a dog at the door. As a safety precaution they called Animal Control. However, they couldn’t wait as the home was filling with smoke reported coming from the kitchen.

Firefighters made entry after one of the neighbors informed the firefighters that the dog (believed to be a pit bull) was friendly. As the firefighters opened the door, they grabbed the dog and got it out of the way just in case it was aggressive. It turned out the dog was friendly and happy to see the firefighters as he licked and rubbed up against them.

The fire was reportedly started after a pot was left on the stove and the homeowners left the home.

Fire crews were on scene for roughly an 1-hr and 16-minutes.

Note:
It’s our opinion that this incident be considered a “save” because of the sheer amount of smoke coming out of the home due to the pot on the stove which could have been ended a lot differently had a smoke alarm not sounded along with alert neighbors. A dog was also saved due to the amount of smoke in the home. Nice work CONFIRE!!!!

Firemen are so awesome. pit bulls are emotional beings. they just want to love and to be loved. this big guy looks like a great dog. and no doubt the owner is grateful he is alive. hope the fire damage was minimal.

Again, it seems that this fire could have been easily prevented. Can you post residential fire prevention tips? Certainly it should include not leaving stoves unattended.
