Bakkie Impressive In Third Wingless Spec Sprint Win At Antioch Speedway

by ECT

Kyle Bakkie made an impressive move around leader Roy Fisher in traffic to gain the lead and win his third 20 lap Wingless Spec Sprint Main Event Saturday night at Antioch Speedway.

Fisher gained the lead on lap seven when Jeremy Newberry had a mechanical problem in Turn 2 and lost power.  Fisher tried to get the lead back from Bakkie, but the current point leader Bakkie made all the right moves to bring it home a winner.  Rick Panfili made a late pass on Alan Miranda to finish third.

Jeff Thomas had a front row start for the IMCA Modified Main Event and charged into the lead from the start of the 20 lap race.  Last time out, Thomas blew a motor while leading.  This time, Thomas repelled every effort of Kyle Wilson to score a well earned victory.  Wilson was a close second and Scott Busby gained the point lead with his third place finish.

Jake Haulot led from flag to flag to win the Winged 360 Sprint Car Main Event.  Art McCarthy ran closely behind Haulot, but Haulot made some smart moves in traffic to score an impressive victory.  McCarthy settled for second with point leader Shawn Arriaga bringing it home in third.

Mike Gustafson jumped out into the lead at the start of the 20 lap Limited Late Model Main Event, and he showed why he is the all time win leader in this division by winning for the second time this season.  Jim Freethy drove a good race and stayed close to Gustafson for the second place finish.  Point leader Larry Damitz would finish third.

Kimo Oreta waited patiently for Robert Niven to make a mistake in the 20 lap Hobby Stock Main Event.  Niven pushed in Turn 4 on lap 11, and Oreta slipped underneath him to take the lead.  Once in front, Oreta drove a flawless race to score his third win of the season.  Brad Myers ended up in second when track officials penalized Niven to fifth behind Tony Jennings Jr.  Niven had made contact with Jennings in Turn 2 earlier in the race to gain the lead.  Jordan Swank was a career best third.

After a two week break, racing returns on Saturday night, June 6 with a program consisting of Northern All Stars Winged 360 Sprint Cars, Wingless Spec Sprints, Limited Late Models and Hobby Stocks.
