August 13-19: Antioch Police Briefs

Between August 13-19 the Antioch Police Department had 1,619 calls for service which netted 85 arrests according to Antioch City Manager Steve Duran.

Of those arrests, 37 were felony, 47 misdemeanors along with 3 DUI. Here is a recap of events provided in the City Manager weekly report.

POLICE DEPARTMENT UPDATES

  • On 8/19/15 at 5: 30pm Officers were dispatched to a report of a male walking into traffic at Lone Tree Way and W. Tregallas Rd. They contacted 38 year old Richard Kearnes at the location as he was walking on the west sidewalk. He was stumbling and having difficulty walking straight. Kearnes almost walked into the roadway and was detained. Kearnes had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. Kearnes could not stand straight and denied consuming any alcoholic beverages. Kearnes was found to be severely over the legal limit of .08 Blood Alcohol level. Due to his extreme intoxication, he was sent to County jail for a sobering period then cite released.
  • On 8/19/15 at 4:40pm while conducting extra patrol on Somersville Road, 44 year old Marlan Pitre and 24 year old James Yingling were contacted to the rear of the CVS store. Officers noticed Yingling was in possession of a glass pipe and placed him under arrest. Yingling was on searchable probation and no further illegal items were located. Pitre submitted to a search of his backpack where another glass pipe was located. Both subjects have extensive criminal histories and were cite released from the scene.
  • IMG_4778On 8/19/15 at 12:15 pm APD dispatch received several calls of shots fired in the area of Rodeo Court. Upon arrival, 30 year old Russell Fernando was contacted in front of his residence and claimed to be the victim of a shooting. Fernando stated that when he arrived home he found an old associate in his garage. Fernando said the man pointed a gun in his direction so he fired in self-defense. There were several bullet holes in Fernando’s garage and his vehicle, but there was no evidence of anybody being struck by the gunfire. Fernando was not very forthcoming. The firearm that Fernando used in the shooting was located inside his residence along with items used to manufacture hash oil. Numerous stolen checks, ID cards, and Passports were located in Fernando’s vehicle. Fernando had an arrest warrant for burglary and was sent to county jail on the listed charges.
  • On 8/19/15 at 11:28 am 33 year old Thomas Salazar was contacted driving a stolen vehicle on Auto Center Drive. Salazar was also in possession of methamphetamine and is on probation. Salazar was arrested and sent to County Jail.
  • On 8/19/15 at 3: 20 am, 37 year old Lionell White was intoxicated and causing a disturbance at Gas City on Lone Tree Way. He was arrested and sent to County Jail.
  • On 8/18/18 at 9:30pm a local hospital called to report that a 16 year old male had been assaulted and was seeking treatment for his injuries. He told officers that he was riding his bike at Cavallo Road near Sunset when three subjects assaulted him for no reason. He had been punched, kicked and hit with a metal object. The responsible fled on foot and were not located. The victim sustained mile abrasions and lacerations from the assault.
  • On 8/18/15 at 8: 09 pm in the 4000 block of Meadow Lake Street, several residents in the area called to report shots fired. Upon arrival Officers contacted a victim who’s front room window was struck by gunfire. Additional calls were coming in of subjects in the hills firing guns nearby. We attempted to locate the suspects but were unsuccessful. One expended round was located and collected for evidence, there were no injuries.
  • On 8/18/15 at 5:19pm Officers were working a proactive detail and responded to a call of subjects selling narcotics in front of the Smoke Shop on Sycamore Drive. Officers contacted a 16 year old male who was acting suspiciously and loitering around the business. When Officers tried to detain him he resisted and was taken to the ground where he continued to actively resist and was eventually handcuffed. The 16 year old provided a false name and was in possession of marijuana. He was later cite-released to his parent.
  • On 8/18/2015 at 2:44 am, officer contacted 24 year old Michael Stafford in the 1900 block of Woodland Dr. He was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. He was arrested and booked at the police department and later released pending lab results.
  • On 8/17/2015 at 11:38 pm, officers contacted 57 year old Walter Parmenter at W.10th and “L” streets. A records checked revealed he had an outstanding arrest warrant for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. He was arrested without incident and booked at the county jail.
  • On 8/17/2015 at 11:24 pm, officers responded to Wagon Ct. regarding a suspicious vehicle call. Officers located the suspicious vehicle and were preparing to tow it for having registration expired over 6 months. While doing so, 47 year old Thomas Bacigalupi approached officers and claimed to own the vehicle. Officers continued with towing the vehicle and conducted an inventory search. A loaded .45 ca. semi automatic handgun was located inside the vehicle along with several fake identifications with Bacigalupi’s image and other evidence of identity theft. Bacigalupi is a convicted felon and was taken into custody for the violation. Bacigalupi denied knowledge of the firearm being in the vehicle or owning the weapon. He was arrested without incident and booked at the county jail.
  • On 8/17/2015 at 1:13 am, officer responded to a traffic accident at Hillcrest Ave near Wildhorse Dr. When officers arrived they found a vehicle had left the roadway and struck a tree. It was determined 19 year old Joel Villalobos was driving north bound on Hillcrest Drive approaching Wildhorse Drive. He had been drinking alcohol and stuck his head out of the window to get some air. In doing so, he left the roadway and struck a tree causing a large branch to fall and block the roadway. Villalobos was not injured and was arrested for DUI. Public Works responded and removed the tree branch from the road. After a sobering period, Villalobos was released on a citation.
  • On 8/16/2015 at 6:00 pm, officers were dispatched to Yosemite Dr. and Hill Dr. regarding subjects going through a vehicle. Officers arrived and saw 27 year old James Ramey and 26 year old Bianca Sorci walking away from the car. Officers made contact with Ramey and Sorci. A records check did not indicate the vehicle was stolen, however, officers requested Pittsburg PD make contact with the registered owner. The registered owner reported to them the vehicle had been stolen. Ramey and Sorci were arrested and upon being searched, a shaved key which started the stolen car was located on Sorci and drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine was discovered on Ramey. During a subsequent interview, Ramey admitted he had driven the stolen car. Sorci was booked for vehicle theft, possession of the shaved key and violation of probation. Ramey was booked for vehicle theft and drug related charges. They were both transported to the county jail.
  • On 8/16/2015 at 5:09 pm, officers responded to W.4th and “K” streets regarding approximately a dozen subjects fighting. Upon officers arrivals, they detained contacted a 14 year old female who was on top of a 13 year old female pulling her hair. A search of the 14 year old girl’s purse revealed that she was in possession of two concealed knives and an air soft gun. The 14 year old was issued a citation and released to her parent. No significant injuries were reported sustained by either girl.
  • On 8/16/2015 at 7:41 am, the owners of Jalisco De Antojitos restaurant at 3040 Delta Fair Blvd. reported a burglary. Officers determined during their investigation that the cash registers were forced open and several food items were taken. Also during the investigation, the video surveillance was reviewed and the burglary was captured and recorded. At approximately 12:08 pm, the officer who reviewed the video saw the suspect from the burglary on Fitzuren Rd. The officer made contact with the suspect, 24 year old Brandon Rowlette, and confirmed he was the same person she had observed commit the burglary. He was arrested and booked at the county jail.
  • On 8/15/2015 at 11:51 pm, officers responded to King Ct. regarding a “911” call of a suspicious vehicle. When the officers arrived, they observed a parked BMW with tinted windows. The officers approached the car and found it was occupied by two males. An officer contacted the person in the driver’s position, 23 year old Lorenzo Salazar, and asked if he had any weapons in the car. Salazar replied that he had a Glock .40 cal in the door next to his leg. A search of the car produced a loaded Glock .40 cal pistol in the storage area of the driver’s door. A ten round magazine was in the weapon but the chamber was clear. The weapon was legally registered to Salazar. Salazar was arrested due to the weapon being loaded. He was later released with a citation to appear on the charge. The passenger, a 19 year old male, was released from the scene.
  • On 8/15/2015 at 10:07 pm, an officer was patrolling the shopping center at 2511 Somersville Rd and observed 66 year old James Wedding loitering next to the building near the car wash. Wedding was found to be on probation and he was searched per those conditions. Wedding had a syringe in his sock and a baggie of methamphetamine pant pocket. He was arrested and booked at the county jail for trespassing, drug charges and violation of probation.
  • On 8/15/2015 at 3:01 pm, officers responded to the 1000 block of Mission Dr. on the report of a male with a gun attempting to break into the residence. The suspect was the estranged husband of the reporting party. Officers had been to the home the previous day when the estranged husband, 42 year old Alfredo Deniz made threats to kill everyone in the house. Deniz was wanted on charges related to that incident. When officers arrived, Deniz had already fled the scene on his motorcycle. No one was injured at the home and according to the witnesses no one actually had seen a gun. Within a few minutes, an officer observed Deniz on his motorcycle near Mission Street and Putnam Rd. and initiated an enforcement stop. Deniz led officers on a short pursuit where he eventually lost control and crashed less than a mile away. Deniz suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Once medically cleared, he was booked at the county jail on charges of threats, vandalism and failing to yield to a police vehicle.
  • On 8/15/2015 at 10:53 am, officers responded to a burglary in progress in the 1900 block of Colosseum Way. A resident reported he had arrived home and found a car parked in his driveway and the front door of his residence forced open. He heard a subject inside and then called police. While officers were en route, the resident observed 23 year old Mazett Parker exit his home and attempt to leave. The resident had removed the keys from the suspect’s vehicle and blocked it in his driveway with his own vehicle. When Parker realized he could not leave in his own vehicle, he fled on foot towards Sanger Peak Way. Arriving officers established a perimeter and Parker was found hiding in a front yard of a nearby home. He was taken into custody without incident. Witnesses had watched Parker approach the victim’s house and kick the front door open just prior to the victim arriving home. Parker was in the process of trying to remove property when the victim arrived interrupted him. Parker was found to have outstanding arrest warrants issued out of San Francisco County for possession of stolen property and theft. Parker was booked at the county jail on his warrants and residential burglary.
  • On 8/14/2015 at 12:32 pm, officers were in the area of the Bonfare Market on West 10th Street when they spotted a vehicle trying to avoid them. The driver, a 17 year old male, made several turns down streets trying to lose the officers. Eventually, he pulled into the Bonfare lot and he and the lone passenger, 18 year old Mathew Pittman, exited and started to walk away from the car. A records check revealed the car was reported stolen and both were quickly detained without incident. Pittman was later booked at the county jail and the 17 year old was sent to juvenile hall.
  • On 8/14/2015 at 1:32 pm, officers responded to a reported Hit & Run collision at “G” St. and Newberry Ave. A 17 year old female driver who was involved in the collision reportedly fled the scene and on Newberry Avenue towards John Gildi Drive. A Code Enforcement Officer was in the area and advised officers of the suspect’s whereabouts. Officers stopped and detained her near John Gildi and West Madill Drives. She was attempting to convince residents to drive her from the area. The 17 year old juvenile was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and wearing an ankle monitor as a condition of release from juvenile hall. Witnesses identified her as the driver who fled the collision. The juvenile was issued a citation and turned over to the jurisdiction of juvenile hall.
  • On 8/14/2015 at 12:09 am, an officer was conducting extra patrol at the Big Lots store at 2521 Somersville Rd. The officer contacted 36 year old Lee Rivers, who was standing near the store building. A warrant check revealed Rivers had several outstanding arrest warrants charging possession of a controlled substance and attempted theft. He was sent arrested and later booked at county jail.
  • On 8/13/2015 at 10:10 pm, officers were stopped at the intersection of Hillcrest Ave. and Lone Tree Way when they heard several shots coming from Williamson Ranch Park. The officers observed a vehicle leaving at a high rate of speed and got into position for a high risk stop. The vehicle finally stopped on Ridgeline Drive and was occupied by 22 year old Douglas Martinez, and a 16 and 17 year old male. Each of the subjects were taken out at gunpoint and the 17 year old male was found to have a Colt revolver in his waistband. He admitted to firing rounds in the air from the backseat and to being a Norteno Gang member. Martinez, who was the driver, had another loaded revolver under the drivers’ seat and claimed no knowledge of it. All three subjects were arrested. The juveniles were taken to Juvenile Hall while Martinez was booked at the county jail. There were no reported injuries or victims as a result of the gun shots.
  • On 8/13/2015 at 9:14 am, officers were dispatched to a home on Excelsior Court regarding a report of a possible residential burglary in progress. The reporting party observed several subjects standing in the driveway and they appeared to have forced the garage door open. Upon the officers arrivals, 33 year old Michael Scott was contacted in the driveway along with a motorcycle which was reported stolen during a recent residential burglary in Pittsburg. Several subjects could be heard in the residence and they refused to come to the door. Officers entered the house and detained 22 year old Brian Gentry and 20 year old Dakota Cayou. It was determined these subjects were residing at the location but had no permission to do so. Scott, who was on probation, was found to have a room at the house. A probation search was conducted on his room and stolen additional items stolen during the Pittsburg burglary, including the keys to the motorcycle. Gentry and Cayou were contacted and found to have outstanding arrest warrants for auto theft and drug related charges. Code Enforcement responded and determined the lock to the water service had been cut. Corporation Yard personnel responded and removed the meter and Code Enforcement red tagged the house. Several neighbors reported since the subjects moved in, there has been a rise in thefts and foot traffic at night.
