Armed Security Firms Tip Leads to Drug Bust at Sycamore Square

Shortly after 1:30 pm Sunday, a tip from a private armed security firm led Antioch Police to a drug dealer in the Sycamore Square parking lot.

The patrol officer noticed a subject who they had previously admonished in the past for trespassing on the property standing in the parking lot meeting with multiple individuals.  Typically, the man would run away upon view of security but this time stayed put. The officer from the firm Strategic Threat Management decided to observed this subject instead of engaging him to gather information.

He observed this subject hand multiple bag of dope to cars that would pull up and leave after 30-seconds and even witnessed hand-to-hand exchanges with pedestrians. The officer quickly called Antioch Police for assistance in removal of this subject from the property.

Minutes later, Antioch Police rolled into the shopping center and cornered the subject. After some minor resistance, officers located a Cheetos bag that was filled with weed packaged for sale from the subject’s waistband.

The patrol officer signed a Citizen’s Arrest Form for 602 Trespassing and Narcotics Sales.

According to Strategic Threat Management owner Larry Treat, this was a prime example of how armed security can help not only local business, but help become eyes and ears for the Antioch Police Department and allow them to take suspicious subjects into custody.

“It’s a perfect private-public collaboration and we didn’t even have to put our hands on the suspect. Police are happy, we are happy and the business owner is happy because the community benefits,” says Treat. “The only one not happy is the drug dealer and those purchasing drugs.”

I’ll bet the police are happy, I’d be happy too if someone else was doing my job! Perhaps we should have hired private security firms instead of voting in the Measure C taxes (this way we would have been assured additional policing services). The City of Antioch acted in bad faith, lying to the residents of Antioch about Measure C and how it would increase the police force to 124 officers.

What a waste of taxpayer money, to have cops busting small time drug dealers. Still his fault for being conspicuous, I guess. People are selling, buying and consuming all over the place and who are the people being targeted by the police and getting busted? Minorities in the ghetto.

Klaus! Really small time or big time, drugs effect our ghetto community. Busting bad people, be it mimorities or the majority is the point.

Great Job! Great example of a well trained private security provider, working with police. Hopefully the police follow up with a search warrant and the DA sends these thugs & drug dealers to jail. Also a good example how marijuana crime impacts our community in a very negative way, and impacts a low income/section 8 neighborhood exponentially more. Note to drug dealers in disadvantage communities “great job in keeping your own people down”.

Where did Antioch go wrong??????? Jul 27, 2014 - 10:50 pm

Nice advertising. I can say that those guys walk around d the ghetto and get paid way less then the cops. I will say that their job is wau different and does not have the demand as a cop. t
This is a good example of how the can help APD.

Hope there is no recourse. THUG LIFE is watching. APD needs to keep an extra eye on this place for awhile for the guards sake. I commend him for standing up for the right thing. More people need to get involved and help the APD clean up.

Great work security gerbs. A real security company with actual security officer would have made the arrest themselves and completed all necessary paperwork completed before calling APD. So when was called it would of been a simple report handed to the officer with the evidence supporting the arrest and your in-custody given to them so they could book and process. This would be way more effective. Since I can almost Guarantee no charges will be filed unless he had a weapon also. Did we forget California was ordered to release 10,000.00 drug dealers from are jails and detention centers by the end of 2014.

So yes great sale Larry Treat.
