At 4:11 pm Friday, Antioch Police responded to the 5000 block of Bridle Way for a report of domestic violence where a woman stated she was beaten by her boyfriend. Upon arrival, police were forced to shoot a dog that charged officers.

Police arrested Rocco Moore, 34, of Concord and Richard Jobe, 28 after Moore had threatened to shoot the female victim and reportedly held her against her will.

According to neighbors we spoke to on scene, there was one report of three gunshots while another said there were four gunshots.

Official Press Release

On November 8th, 2013 an anonymous caller stated that a female was being beaten by her boyfriend at a residence in Antioch. The caller stated that Moore had threatened to shoot the female victim if the police were called. Officers arrived and set up a perimeter around the residence. Officers then entered the open garage door of the residence where they encountered Moore and Jobe in the garage. Moore reached for his waistband and hid behind a mattress in the cluttered garage. Jobe refused to obey officers’ commands. A dog that was in the garage came towards the officers and was shot and killed.

Moore reemerged from behind the mattress and complied. Jobe began fighting with the officers and was eventually subdued. Jobe and Moore were taken into custody. A loaded stolen firearm was located by the mattress Moore was hiding behind. Jobe was transported to a local hospital for treatment from injuries he sustained while fighting with the officers. Moore and Jobe were transported to the Martinez Detention Facility and charged with numerous crimes. The female victim told police that she was beaten by Moore and held against her will by him as well.

Thank you Antioch PD. Sorry about the dog but glad none of you were injured by these people with a loaded gun. You deserve a lot of credit for not shooting him.

Sorry for the dogs life but if in this situation where loaded guns and 2 hostile people are not complying with officers….I side with the PD in securing themselves in this situation. A dog is a distraction to the situation and I’m sure it felt threatened due to the scene an reacted as any dog would just unfortunate he was there in the company of trash. Good job APD, I’m glad no lives were lost over these 2.

Gail I am so sorry for your loss. Believe when I say this…. I am going to do whatever I can to stop this animal cruelty. This is not the only way to handle that kind of situation

Glad no one from PD was hurt in this incident. Based off the press release, I’d of shot the dog to if it came at me. Not saying it was right or wrong but the circumstances here show a danger was already elevated with a domestic violence, woman held against her will, loaded gun. Another fine job by our boys in blue!

Good job Apd. Glad everyone went home safe.

@Gail- I’m confused. The dog was there the whole time? And where were you in this whole situation? I’m just glad these scumbags got caught. What goes around comes around.

I am so tired of people becoming enraged in this type of situation when a dog gets shot. Yes, it’s sad, but the police were doing their best to protect the HUMANS, and this was a DOG, right?

Sorry about the dog but it was the right thing to do. If you have ever been involved watching what one of these “cute, sweet dogs” can do to a human or another animal you would understand. They kill people or scar them for life. They kill other animals scarring the owners for life. Don’t give me crap because I have been there.

Glad to see more people out there valuing the lives of humans and police officers more than animals. I am an animal lover and have both dogs and cats, but when it comes to a PERSONS safety there is only one choice. People come before animals. I’m glad the APD apprehended two violent people and removed them from our community.

I agree Antioch PD did what they had to do. Any dog will pick up on the energy of what is going on around them. If people were fighting, afraid and being aggressive that dog surely could have picked up on that and acted accordingly. I love dogs but if there was any doubt in the police officer’s mind that he or she was unsafe then they acted appropriately.

Gail it sounds as if you are hanging with the wrong people and are suffering the consequences. I am just glad it was your dog and not you.

I agree with the others Antioch PD did the right thing. Gail you need to see the big picture not just that your dog being shot. Humans first. The woman was threatened and assaulted with physical violence. Whether your dog charged them or looked like it was they did the right thing and shot the dog.

I am a dog lover and have never been without a canine companion my entire life, however along with dog ownership comes responsibility. Too many people have pets and don’t deserve to own them. If you can’t keep control of them, then unfortunately they suffer the consequences of your stupidity. The Antioch PD never know what type of temperament these dogs have & how they will react and acted as they should in this type of situation. You have no-one to blame but yourself for being an irresponsible pet owner.

The police did there job and apprehended these two violent guys who should stay in jail. I just wish there was another option to killing the dog. A shot to the leg could have stopped the animal, but reports said 3-4 shots fired ( sounds like over kill to me ). The real owner is a sweet 8 yo boy, and that dog sadly was his family. Hope those 2 stay in jail.

a dog dies because two douche bag people don’t know how to behave themselves. disgusting. domestic disputes are a waste of everyone’s time. if you don’t get along, do everyone a favor and do the grown up thing and walk away. what a bunch of idiots wasting APD’s time on this.

Smh Nov 11, 2013 - 11:21 pm

@ Gail, I’m upset about the whole suituation, especially for the loss of nephew and how your family must be effected by all of this. What dog wouldn’t protect their owner? A worthless one! From my understanding Gail went above and beyond her responsibilities as a dog owner, her old man clearly couldn’t do the same. The whole situation is messed up and makes me sick. Has anyone took a moment and pondered what the “victim” must’ve done to make her “boyfriend” so mad? Before judging the suspects so harshly you should think about that

BJ Nov 12, 2013 - 12:41 am

Hopefully the “victim” learns her lesson… I don’t feel bad for her and I don’t believe that she was actually held against her own will. Thank god it was the dog that was shot and not one of the children that lived there…

Gem Nov 12, 2013 - 10:52 am

No one deserves to get beat no matter what they have done. not a child or a grown person.. It is loosers like you that make this an eye for an eye shit ok. It is not. If it was something she did that the guy did not like then leave. U dont have to stay with someone that you don’t get along with and you don’t have to be Violent to get your point across. Couples Fight everyday but not everyone uses Viloence to solve problems. And It is sad about the Dog But the guys could have complied grabbed the dog and the dog would not have died, but no The cowards ducked let the dog take the hit and they live while a loved animal who did not beat the woman died…. Cowards use Viloence to control. Real Men get up and Walk away from the Drama of a bad Relationship.

Meghan Nov 18, 2013 - 9:53 pm

I agree, couldnt have said it better

Dntblvemejstwtch Nov 14, 2013 - 5:43 am

Not a relationship or even domestic dispute. The “victim” is a real scum bag… If you knew her and how she is you’d withdraw your “no one deserves to be beaten” statement. She probably enjoyed every second of it

IdontBlieveUshowME Nov 22, 2013 - 3:05 am

It probably made her squirt! She probably already replaced the “abusive” boyfriend for another scum buck with a dope bag
