Antioch PD: “Fighting the Fight”

by ECT

I wanted to pass along this wonderful message from Antioch Police Department Chief Allan Cantando who provided  information about how citizens really can make a difference in getting suspects off the street. Within a minute of a citizen report today,  an officer quickly responded which resulted in a drug dealer was in possession of drugs and a handgun, and his companion was a wanted parolee at large. Great job Antioch PD!

I am entitling this post “fighting the fight”. Last night we had a shooting in one of our high crime areas. Today, true to form, our officers were out there proactively working that area.

A citizen reported to Ofc. Devany Dee that they witnessed a hand to hand drug transaction where one of the suspects had a handgun. Within a minute, Ofc. Dee and Ofc. Jim Perkinson had two individuals detained. The drug dealer was in possession of drugs and a handgun, and his companion was a wanted parolee at large.

I wanted the public to know of the great work that our officers are doing in our city. I know a select few of you may say “well…isn’t that what they are paid to do?” The answer is “Yes”, but until you know the feeling of rolling up on and confronting suspected armed drug dealers, you will never understand the amount of bravery to be a front line officer in our city. With that said, I know the vast majority of you appreciate the dedication of our officers and what they are doing on a daily basis.

Lastly, I wanted to note why I entitled this post “fighting the fight”. You may have assumed it was geared solely at the officers. In reality, the citizen who gave the officer the information demonstrated the needed traits we need for Neighborhood Watch programs. Working together collaboratively, WE took two individuals off the street today for felony violations. They will be in County Jail within a few hours and unable to commit crimes in our city tonight!

I thank the citizens of Antioch for their continued support as we continuously work together on crime issues in OUR community.

Sincerely,

Chief Allan Cantando
