Out walking my dogs with my 8 month pregnant wife and had to get of dodge when gun shots rang out. Thanks to the lovely citizens of Antioch it isn’t safe to walk in your own neighborhood. Is it that important to put innocent people in jeopardy because you’re a ghetto sack of shit.

Lola Saavedra Dec 9, 2018 - 2:11 am

My great-grandmothers tell me that Antioch was a paradise to live in UNTIL the ghetto trash started moving in here. They ruin every city and neighborhood they come into. Thanks A LOT, Section 8 administrators! Thanks for nothing!

Terry Cruz Dec 9, 2018 - 9:22 am

Yes Lola, old people always think back then was the “good old days” and everything was better, what’s your point?

Doug Dec 9, 2018 - 10:57 am

Reading comprehension. I think she stated her point quite plainly.

Antioch was trash in the 60s. It was just a different culture of trash. It has gotten worse.

Justagirlsmemories Dec 9, 2018 - 7:57 am

No, it wasn’t trash in the 60’s I was born and raised here. Time has always had some bad in every era, in every town. Antioch was a good place to live when I grew up here. It was a kind of country little town with cattle on the hills and nice farms on the outskirts where you could go for country drives, and a little airport where you could watch parachuters jump and land on a lazy Sunday. People knew each other. Like alot of other places people are getting more and more into themselves and not caring about others. It breaks my heart. I have watched Antioch decline through my years (and years) of living here.

And we only had to dial 4 digits to call someone. The 60’s and 70’s were great but we did start to see gang activity. It didn’t start with section 8 moving in.

Black Bart Dec 9, 2018 - 4:20 pm

Section 8 has greatly contributed to criminals moving in. If you read the law, it really makes no sense why move people from one area to another where they don’t belong and have no nothing in common with the long term residents. They can really disrupt a nice neighborhood and this is just wrong.

Melanie Dec 9, 2018 - 1:10 pm

I agree with Nick. Pittsburg and Antioch were both bad in the 60s. They’ve never been nice towns, and they never will be. There were good people (like any town) but they’ve always been dirt water towns. In the 60s, it was known as a white trash town.

I agree that Antioch has gotten a lot worse, but the trash was there before other cultures moved in. Some white people just don’t want to admit it.

No! Antioch was not trash during the 1960! It was a town where people knew each other and very few locked their doors at night. Then, very poor city management contributed to it’s steady erosion and this continued. Construction which was not needed started the ball rolling. Ghetto trash started moving in and that pretty much sealed Antioch’s fate, but that can be undone!

I grew up in Antioch in the mid 70’s it was a good place to grow up. Everyone was hard working middle class family. I couldn’t wait to retire.i could go shopping during the week while everyone was at work. Fyi apparently no one works in this town the parking lot is full during the week no matter what time of the day you go. The government checks must be vary good these days.

I came up from the Los Angeles area to visit relatives when I was a kid in the 1960’s. Antioch was very nice and people were friendly and many knew each other. Then .. starting in the late 1980’s, the place started getting run down and more apartment buildings went up which were filled with some truly sketchy characters. Then it got worse in the 1990 and beyond. I think a lot of this was due to very poor city management.

Melanie Dec 9, 2018 - 6:32 pm

It went downhill before that. I was just reading a Vintage Antioch Facebook, where a guy was talking about moving to Texas (a 1974 article) because “people were getting shot over drugs.”

It wasn’t poor city management. It was the residents of Antioch. You can only do so much with the hand you are dealt. Those of us that grew up in the area (outside of East County) have ALWAYS KNOWN that Pittsburg and Antioch have never been nice towns. Antioch was like Shore Acres (West Pittsburg) back in the day. Not everyone was white trash in Antioch, but it had more than it’s fair share.

Harry Palms Dec 9, 2018 - 9:55 am

20 shots? Too bad they didn’t have better aim.

Elizabeth R Dec 9, 2018 - 6:15 pm

If they were better shots, with a little luck they could have eliminated each other off the face of the earth. No loss at all.

Weside Dec 9, 2018 - 10:40 am

An I bet they (victim) an (suspect)are not from Antioch probably Oakland or Richmond……its sad that these kids dont have any value to life for themselves or others

BDUB Dec 9, 2018 - 1:10 pm

Section 8 has a lot to do with it,also these thugs parents just let their kids run wild, because they have no respect for their elders!!! Their fun is out selling drugs and shooting at each other, instead of getting a job and helping out the communities they live in. You open up a town for trash to come in,you suffer the consequences.

Dawn Dec 9, 2018 - 4:30 pm

I actually overheard the idiot with the funny name who represents this areas on the County Board of Supervisors that he wants to bring in more and more Section 8 winners from Oakland and Richmond into THIS area. Fantastic! That’s all we need more of!

Ced Dec 9, 2018 - 5:43 pm

Shyt happens in every neighborhood no matter what culture is currently living there. I saw the whole thing happen here last night. And stop saying section 8 when you keep saying that it’s coming off as a lil racist.

Elizabeth R Dec 9, 2018 - 10:00 pm

Ced? Is that a problem?

Janine Dec 9, 2018 - 6:03 pm

Dear lola and Doug. Sorry we brung the ratchet. It would’ve been so much better if we just let the whites continue to kidnap lil kids . Put them in the basement and rape and molest. Or just sit up and snort cocaine and kill up their families Gosh darn it! or just practice incest in secret in their homes. All man. I bet y’all miss the good ole Antioch days.

Dawn Dec 17, 2018 - 5:03 pm

Exactly who were the “whites” continuing to kidnap kids? Killing families? Commit incest? Keep them in basements? (I don’t know anyone here who has a basement!) Who’s snorting cocaine and where do they get it from? Y’all “brung the ratchet?” Is English your second language?

Janine Dec 9, 2018 - 6:13 pm

The way y’all kids are killing y’all in y’all sleep and shooting up schools. Y’all should have y’all hands full. Stop worrying about little black kids.

Lexi Dec 9, 2018 - 6:35 pm

It just seems like while y’all kids are killing y’all in y’all sleep and shooting up schools. Y’all should have y’all hands full. Stop worrying about little black kids. Last It’s more whites on assistance then any other race dummies

Nick Dec 9, 2018 - 8:44 pm

There are a much higher percentage of blacks and Hispanics on government assistance than whites. They’re poorer races, and less educated. There are a lot more white people on earth, but not a higher percentage of whites on assistance – compared to the white population. Remember – whites and Asians glorify education, not violence. Educate yourself.

Lola Saavedra Dec 9, 2018 - 9:56 pm

Of course there are more whites on public assistance and that’s because there are MORE whites! Blacks make up less than 12% of the entire US population. But percentage-wise, there are more blacks on welfare. Do Y’all get it, Lexi?

Tasha Dec 10, 2018 - 2:12 pm

There are people on section 8 that don’t live like that. I’am tired of people saying thank you section 8. People do stupid stuff.

Big bro Dec 10, 2018 - 5:47 pm

I just looked up crime stats for the 60s and 70s in Antioch and you should stop lying about crime and your so-called paradise. Go to the FBI crime stats ands read the truth. There were almost no Blacks living here and they were not the ones who were criminals and not the ones living in section 8 back when section 8 numbers were very high. Even today section 8 stats are high among white people Read articles about how Brentwood an dPittsburg didn’t want what they called Antioch trash in their cities. Stop lying and look it up the real info. I’m not even putting Antioch down. I’m just saying stop lying. I can understand that you are trying to deflect your embarrassment on to others, but the truth is the truth.
