Antioch: Firefighters Pull Woman From Smoke Filled House Sunday Afternoon

At 3:54 pm Sunday, Contra Costa County Firefighters responded to a report of heavy smoke coming from a home on the 600 block of W. 14th Street in Antioch.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find smoke coming from both the front and back of the home. Upon entry, they pulled an unconscious female from the home and with the assistance of Antioch police, took her to safety where she regained consciousnesses. The female tried to run back into the home before being stopped by police.

While inside, firefighters quickly located the flames in the fireplace and extinguished the fire which filled the home with smoke. Additional units were cancelled and three engines remained on scene as a precaution.

IMG_7207According to residents in neighboring homes, heavy black smoke was coming from the home off and on for the last 48-hours. CONFIRE stated the woman had been burning items in her fireplace which included clothes.

AMR transported the woman to a local hospital as a precaution. Firefighters were on scene for just under an hour.
