Contra Costa County firefighters responded to a report of a commercial structure fire in Antioch after reports of an alarm sounding and smoking coming from a building.

The fire broke out at 6:10 pm Wednesday at 712 E. 18th Street at D&K Automotive Repair in Antioch and it was reported smoke was showing while CONFIRE units were responding.

Fire Engines 81, 82, and 88 were first to arrive to find a large amount of smoke coming from the rear and the side of the large automotive warehouse.   Crews quickly forced entry to find vehicles inside the building on fire to the rear of the structure, and the entire building charged with thick black smoke.

According to Battalion Chief Ed Gonzales, an aggressive interior fire attack was initiated along with searching the building, smoke removal, and salvage efforts.

Gonzales reported the fire was quickly knocked down and the damage was confined to three vehicles with minor to moderate fire damage to the structure.

The estimated loss is approximately $100,000.  The potential dollar loss could have been close to 1 million.  There were no injuries reported from firefighters or civilians. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Antioch Police assisted with crowd and traffic control- East 18th Street was shut down for two hours during the incident.  Engine 93 and Battalion Chief 5 of the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District also assisted on the incident.

There was a vehicle that was experiencing electrical problems that had been garaged inside to prevent vandalism.
