At 1:55 pm, a fire broke out at 611 East 18th Street by a driver who passed by the building. Contra Costa County Fire Protection District quickly attacked the blaze and limited damage to the exterior of the building while PG&E worked to turn off the gas.

The fire is still under investigation, however, one firefighter had a minor injury from the incident while attempting to close the gas valve to extinguish the fire and was sent to Sutter Delta for evaluation.

Quint 83 and 84 were on scene along with Engines 81, 82, and 88 with Battalion Chief 8 and 5 committed to the incident. Due to the location of the accident, it caused Alhambra Drive to be blocked off in both directions.

The potential of this blaze to cause the building to go up in flames, however, crews did a nice job to prevent minor damage.

Here are some shots of the incident.
