The City of Antioch has two less homeless encampments to deal with after code enforcement cleared out camps Monday morning.

The city removed a camps on I Street and 6th as well as at A Street and 6th after walking the waterfront area last week to observe multiple transient encampments.  The garbage was so great on A and 6th that two bulldozers were required and multiple dump trucks were used.

Residents for months have been frustrated with the encampments at the two locations and had been featured on the Facebook group Cleaning Up Antioch, One Home At A Time with several photographs.

Ryan Graham, Antioch’s deputy economic development director, explained Monday that since the property was city owned,  the city had changed its procedures on dealing with the homeless and transients which is what caused the delay.  The city provided a weeks notice along with documents containing information on shelters and services offered by the County and Non-Profits.

City Manager Weekly Report

Last weeks report by Steve Duran  went out Friday highlighted Antioch had provided notice and were making efforts to clean up the encampments around town.  Here is a look at his notes:

  • Vacant transient encampment at 6th and I ST posted with notice to clean property.
  • Posted transient encampment at A and 6th with notice to clean property. A resource handout was provided to occupants.

How can nothing become so much? Look on A street at the railroad tracks. There is an encampment there on the edge of the road on r/r property.
