This is getting out of hand. Friday it was a homicide, yesterday 7 people were shot. What the hell is Sunday going to bring? Mr. Mayor, would you like to take back your statement about crime improving in Antioch?

It’s actually 8 people shot yesterday. There was a man shot on Sycamore during a robbery. That is 9 people shot in two days with 1 homicide.

That man that was shot on sycamore was my friend Danny. He was shot 4 times

Steven Jun 29, 2014 - 7:36 am

My friend was shot last night 4 times on sycamore while being mugged.

I am officially over this Antioch City Council. You have failed us all and we need people in there who will really be tough on crime. Until you solve crime and reduce violence like this, the city will continue to be all over the news feeds. I understand you are hiring, but not enough officers and not fast enough. I urge this council to begin making necessary changes to hire more cops. I am so over reading about shootings but I thank ECT for providing the community with information because Antioch sure is keeping its residents in the dark.

Where did Antioch go wrong??????? Jun 29, 2014 - 9:52 am

For the people who are complaining about hiring more cops. This did not happen over night and it will not be solved over night. People bitch about what the cops make and how much it is costing the city in salaries and benefits. This is a price the city will have to pay if they want to hire qualified cops and not just dumb knuckle draggers. Antioch will struggle for years to come and will never be the city that some of us grew up in. And for all the people that just point the fingers at city council. I’m not anywhere even close to associated with anybody on the council and don’t personally know any of them. I know that they dedicate a lot of time and are probably doing the best they can with what crappy resources and tax base that is in front of them. These people deserve a little more respect then what is given by citizens that just sit back and bitch about what is going on. For the armchair quarterbacks, why don’t you get off you butt and try to make a difference.

Meanwhile, the Antioch City Council has its heads in the sand worrying about feral cats. I feel sorry for our police officers who are understaffed.

Antioch is such a shithole. Happy to be born raised and still live in Pittsburg.

Albert Olvera Jun 29, 2014 - 9:51 am

Glad that i’m no longer there, it takes the general population to change things, not the city council, get involved

We are afraid to even leave our home after dark, can’t even take the dog out for a walk during the day. No comments or follow-up on Tough and Crime……why pay them and they want to get re-elected???

The Mayor and the City Council need to get their act together and hire more cops! The citizens of Antioch deserve better and the Mayor is not making any progress. Kind of funny that according to public records the Mayors own home in Antioch is in foreclosure, even he would rather get out of here then do the right thing. Maybe ECT should look into that and ask the city why he is letting his house go, I am pretty sure they pay him enough to afford it.

Antioch must pass the Residential Landlord Tax on the November ballot. LANDLORDS MUST PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE. Out of town people, the California Apartment Association are against this of course and have a lot of money to back this. Antioch MUST PASS this for the security of our city.

I feel so safe knowing I voted for Mayor Harper. I felt safe when his billboards had a cop badge right next to him. I felt safe when he said, “Things are getting better” in regards to Antioch crime. I voted for him because he said “Zero tolerance for crime” on his billboards.

Ain’t it a doozy? I’m waiting for you to come out of your bat cave and fight the crime Mayor. Any time now.. still waiting……
