Big Break Visitor Center Holds Open House

by ECT

Yesterday was a great day for Oakley and East County as the East Bay Regional Park District held an open house for the Big Break Visitor Center. The event took place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. with lots of kid friendly things to see.

The 5,000 square foot visitor center building has three rooms: a welcome reception area, an exhibit room with the ability for group gatherings (such as classroom or lecture), and a science lab with work stations for field studies (microscopes, work tables, sinks, etc.).

I brought my wife and kids with me as my four year old enjoyed all the animal displays and got a kick out of learning about the owls while being able to take apart owl pallets. Mayor Kevin Romick was also on hand along with representatives from the Delta Science Center.

The facility is scheduled to be opened on Saturdays and Sundays with a much larger grand opening even scheduled in early October.
