Sears in Antioch Set to Close in October

by ECT

On Tuesday, Sears announced more stores will be closing which include 21 stores and 5 KMART’s.

On the list locally, is the Sears located at the Somersville Towne Center Mall in the city of Antioch. The store was left off the chopping block last year, but is now on this years list to close. The closure will occur in October.

Here is what the Company Wrote Tuesday:

Over the past several months, we have worked hard to strengthen our vendor relationships, return our inventory levels to normal, and improve customer satisfaction and operations; however, we have faced a number of challenges returning our stores to sustainable levels of productivity, including differences with Sears Holdings over our purchase agreement and a generally weak retail environment. These challenges have unfortunately affected our performance and limited our strategic choices.

After careful review of where we are today, we believe the right course for the company is to accelerate the expansion of our smaller store formats which includes opening additional Home & Life stores and adding several hundred Sears Hometown stores after the Sears Hometown and Outlet transaction closes. We have made the difficult but necessary decision to close 26 large-format Sears and Kmart stores in late October. The Sears Auto Centers at any of these stores (see * below) will close in late August. Liquidation sales at these stores are expected to begin around August 15.

As we promised, all eligible associates will be offered the same number of weeks of severance as offered to employees of Sears Holdings Corporation prior to that company’s Chapter 11 filing in October 2018.

Following these steps, we will continue to evaluate our network of Sears and Kmart stores and cannot rule out additional store closures in the near term. Our goal remains to return the company to profitability and preserve as many jobs as possible in the communities we serve.

Customers can use the store locator function on our web sites to find the location of their nearest Kmart and Sears stores.

Great one more abandoned building that the city of Antioch can’t seem to get filled so we’ll have another building for the homeless to sit around and bother anybody that comes into the parking lot Delta Fair from American Tire all the way to the traffic light on Buchanan it is nothing but disgusting trash Heap and nothing but RVs that should be off the roads with all these abandoned buildings you would think that the city would be able to put them all in one place with a few restrooms and then basically they wouldn’t be all over the city but oh gee got it make too much common sense so let’s just make some more buildings unobtainable not usable we don’t have any income from those buildings and oh yeah the city can do what they want like I don’t know just like dis respecting the Veterans Memorial with a toilet that’s great management for the city once again for the city outstanding management team’s outstanding that’s where you all are to be outstanding in a damn field somewhere else

9 months ago it was our K-Mart, and now Sears. Why doesn’t the company just shut down completely? The writing is on the wall, and it’s only a matter of time before they’re defunct.

The store I really miss is ORCHARD SUPPLY HARDWARE! I shopped there all the time and the store was full of customers. Why they closed it down is a mystery. They had great stuff and their pottery was pretty. They were easy to get to and plenty of parking in their lot. That store has stood empty for a couple of years now. What a shame!
