Update: Pleasant Hill Police Catch Suspect With Ballistic Vest and Assault Rifle

On Saturday afternoon, the Pleasant Hill Police Department announced a 33-year-old man was taken into custody relating to an incident Friday night.

According to Sargent Matt Kristic after receiving investigative leads from members of the community, Pleasant Hill Police officers were able to identify the suspect from this incident.

Earlier  Saturday, the individual involved in this incident, a 33 year old male resident at 100 Boyd Road, was contacted and detained at the apartment complex at 100 Boyd. The subject was detained outside his apartment and without incident.

Kristic said it was determined he was suffering from a mental health crisis. He is currently receiving mental health treatment at an area hospital. The County Mental Health Evaluation Team (MHET) has been notified and will be involved in the follow-up investigation to ensure public safety, proper treatment and a long term resolution. Criminal charges for weapons violations with the District Attorney’s office will also be sought.

 


Original Release:

On February 2, 2018, about 10:31 PM the Pleasant Hill department received multiple calls reporting a man was seen with an assault-style rifle and wearing a bullet proof vest walking in front of 100 Boyd Road.

Pleasant Hill Police officers arrived within seconds and saw the man in front of the apartment complex at 100 Boyd Road. Officers confirmed the subject was in possession of an assault-style rifle and was wearing a ballistic vest.

He fled on foot and ran out of site into the apartment complex at 100 Boyd Road. Officers established a perimeter to contain the subject and called for assistance from neighboring agencies. Local residents were contacted and advised to shelter in place.

The Central County Regional SWAT team was activated and completed an exhaustive search of the apartment complex at 100 Boyd Road and the surrounding areas.

The subject was not located and his identity is currently unknown. He is described as a white male adult, approximately 5’6” with brown hair and a light beard. He was wearing a dark beanie cap, camouflage pants and a black ballistic vest.

The Pleasant Hill Department is continuing to investigate this incident to determine the identity of this subject. Anybody with information regarding this investigation is requested to call the Pleasant Hill Police Department at (925) 288-4630.

The lock down began just before 11:30 pm Friday.
