Pittsburg: Shooting After Vehicle Crash Prompts Lockdown at Elementary School

by ECT

Just before 3:00 pm Tuesday, Pittsburg Police responded to an altercation near East 10th Street in the City of Pittsburg.

Prior to officers arriving at the location, they were advised two vehicles had been involved in a collision at the intersection of 10th Street and Black Diamond Street.

According to Captain Steve Albanese, once on scene, officers locate a man a few blocks away who was suffering from a gunshot to the upper arm.  The man was later transported to John Muir Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

According to witnesses, the responsible ran from the area on foot east towards Harbor Street.  Pittsburg Officers are currently contacting witnesses and obtaining statements from those involved and are working to identify and locate the responsible.

Captain Albanese said the location where this incident occurred is adjacent to the Marina Vista Elementary School.  At the time of the incident, the school was scheduled for end of the day release. Out of an abundance of caution, the school was momentarily placed on lockdown.

Officers worked with the school’s staff to safely maintain the students within the school facility until officers could ensure the scene and surrounding area were safe for students and parents to walk through the area.

Once the area was cleared of any concerns, the lockdown was released and parents were allowed to pick up the students.

No other information was released.

This is really scary! I have friends whose children attend that school. I hope those people are caught.

So glad I moved away from there. Used to live across from school. I got tired of hearing gunfire every night and being afraid to go out or come home after dark.
