Oakley: Firefighters Battling 5 Acre Vegetation Fire at Homeless Camp

by ECT

At 6:00 pm Sunday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a report of smoke and flames coming from the area of Neroly and Main Street in the City of Oakley.

While responding, they received reports the fire was showing flames from 10-15 feet high along the railroad tracks on Bridgehead Road in the construction site.

According to Battalion 5, they had a 5-acre fire with access issues along the fence line that was burning through a homeless encampment.

As of 6:28 pm, Engine 53 reported they stopped forward progress.

It’s the fucking homeless bums setting those fires! Time to flush them out and drive them out of Oakley, Antioch and Brentwood! Good riddance! If they want to crouch in bushes and stay out of wight, fine! But you don’t put an entire town in danger because you have nothing to lose and want to make sure no one else does either. I’m sick of this!

The homeless are becoming more and more of an issue in our area. If the city makes a coupe motels for them they would drastically change the situation. They would have access to clean water and sanitary facilities for them to take care of themselves. It would at least keep the streets clean/somewhat safer, and not sure but maybe less of a fire risk also makes the city seem less dirty to the outside world. But would also attract other homeless to the area so sometime or residential rules have to be in place but in my opinion, I think it would be a great idea and would do more good than bad.

Yes, if only! But many homeless do not want to be in any motel or anywhere inside a building. Do you really think anyone would want to stay in motel or hotel where the homeless were stinking up the place. No way! Even if they did, who will be footing the bill for these people? Do you think Housekeeping will change their sheets and towels every day? No way! Who will pay for the power to run the room TV’s? How about food? Where will they cook? A hibachi inside the room? How many will stay in a room with two queen beds? Four?

The Motel 6 in Pittsburg is being occupied by homeless and there are always fights breaking out. Friday night bum fights!

No what I mean is basically give the motel to the homeless like a shelter or sorts. No house keeping, just maybe a couple people making sure nothing gets out of hand or maybe even have a cop posted there all day. And I mean the state can fund the project at this point I think anything is worth trying before the homeless situation get to out of hand. And I mean just the basics in the rooms, no TVs or anything really just a little electricy and running water other than that it’s up to them. But I think it gives them a solid opportunity to maybe get their life together.
