Letter: Why Antioch Police Officers Do Not Support Monica Wilson’s Re-election

by ECT

It’s unusual for the Antioch Police Officers’ Association, comprising 118 sworn officers, to not endorse an incumbent councilmember. We cannot support Councilmember Monica Wilson. We’d like to tell you why. Simply put, Ms. Wilson supports policies that will lead to increased crime in Antioch.

First, Ms. Wilson publicly defends the District Attorney’s policies to NOT CHARGE shoplifters, looters or individuals in possession of heroin, cocaine or methamphetamines. There is no doubt this new policy, just announced, will increase crime in Antioch.

Ms. Wilson is also an advocate of Lamar Thorpe’s homeless motel – which would turn the Executive Inn on E. 18th and Cavallo into a permanent residence for the homeless. This location is near homes, 1/4 mile from four schools and is ALREADY a sensitive crime area.

With regard to accepting a tax-free $750,000 a year grant from the Department of Justice to bring back School Resource Officers in six Antioch schools, Ms. Wilson voted NO. We don’t understand her reasoning here.

Antioch is at a fork in the road. Are we going to control crime or are we going to elect leaders whose policies will just encourage more of the same? We ask you to think about Monica Wilson’s record before you vote on or before November 3rd.

Thank you for reading this message.

Try patrolling off the main streets. Never seen ANY police even drive through the neighborhoods. If crime in neighborhoods near Bart…why more police on day shift. Why were TEN police cars at homeless camp TWO HOURS before activity…no patrolling?? Stop bs’ng the people…do some police work.

I see the police drive through out neighborhood 3-4 times a day and we don’t have a crime problem here. Maybe that’s why the neighborhood is in harmony. There were some renters down the street who kept subletting their garage and rooms to others, but we got rid of them by reporting them to the homeowner. No weirdos here now.

US has had an unbelievable 8 years of prosperity. Look at Antioch. Looks worst than the 2008 recession years. Landscaping is atrocious. Trash everywhere. Traffic speeding out of control, drug addicts masquerading as homeless, blight everywhere, etc. Businesses closed everywhere for good. Blow it up! Shameful our council wants Antioch to look like Richmond, Oakland, etc. Have to be nuts to keep these clowns in a position that impacts our quality of life.

I didn’t vote for her either; what has she done in the last eight years??? NOT JACK; no leadership qualities whatsoever; spent all that money on the stupid logo that looks like Amazon’s and everyone else’s for a $100K; like that is going to bring business to Antioch The only thing that will be business to Antioch is if the business owners feel like they have support from the Police and City Council. City Council has been a miserable failure in this town period. We have a decent police force; we just need to ramp it up; not deflate it. I can’t stand DA Becton; how the hell did she get elected???? Oh yeah, the other DA was even more crooked.

Eve Starr Oct 15, 2020 - 10:10 pm

He was not as crooked as Becton is. Why did a lot of the ADA’s leave as soon as Becton came on board? These were the very bright people. As to Monica Wilson? How in the world did SHE get elected? The good people are left behind and the idiots get elected and we’re back to square one.

They left because it wasn’t going to be “business as usual” in the D.A. office. Selective prosecutions and graft. See analysis of the office, don’t just spout untruths. What would YOU suggest we do about the NATIONWIDE homeless issues. Spend the SRO money on more PATROL officers…and then have them PATROL,not just drive up and down Lonetree. Get into the neighborhoods. Don’t need SRO in elementary schools. Get rid of the fat cops, too. How do they pass yearly physical fitness tests…oh,oh, just like hiring the murderer cop from San Francisco…Why? there are better candidates, but always looking out for the system of bs police. Makes them all look bad. Biggest gang around.

WILSON AND THORPE GO HAND IN HAND. THEY WANT TO DEFUND THE POLICE DEPT THEY BOTH AGREE WITH NOT ARRESTING LOOTERS OR DRUG ADDICTS AND DEALERS. WHY? ARE THEY RELATED? THORPE GETS CAUGHT WATCHING PORN PICTURES, DOESN’T PAY BACK CHILD SUPPORT, GUILTY OF LEWD AND INDECENT BEHAVIOR, THORPE AND WILSON BOTH VOTED AGAINST BRINGING BACK SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS BACK TO OUR SCHOOLS. I’M IN AGREEMENT WITH OUR POLICE OFFICERS NOT TO SUPPORT THESE PEOPLE FOR OFFICE. AND DON’T EVEN GET ME STARTED ABOUT THE HOMELESS. THEY DON’T CARE IF THESE PEOPLE ARE DESTROYING OR NEIGHBORHOODS AND BUSINESSES NOT TO MENTION THAT THERE ARE SEX OFFENDERS IN THE MIX. WE LET THEM GET INTO OFFICE IS LIKE PUTTING OUR CITIZENS IN FRONT OF A FIRING SQUAD OF CRIME. WE NEED TO TAKE ANTIOCH BACK WITH COUNSEL MEMBERS THAT AREN’T AFRAID TO SHOW THEIR FACES TO THE CITIZENS AND BE TRANSPARENT. OUR POLICE CHIEF ISN’T AFRAID TO FACE THE CITIZENS AND SPEAKS TO US THAT’S WHAT WE NEED IN A MAYOR AND COUNSEL. DEFINATLY NOT THESE TWO!

Kick those 2 bastards out! They are as useful as a fart in a windstorm!

Mark Smith Oct 27, 2020 - 8:29 pm

We need to STOP giving exorbitant raises to Police! They are against Wilson and Thorpe because they don’t bow to them. We need Police but we don’t need to make our city go broke over them!
