Knox Calls for Attorney General to Investigate Sex Crimes Case with Ties to a Church led by District Attorney’s Husband

Press Release

by ECT

MARTINEZ, CA – Contra Costa Deputy District Attorney Mary Knox is calling for California Attorney General Rob Bonta to investigate District Attorney Diana Becton for her failure to disclose and manage a clear conflict of interest in a sex crimes case involving a church employee that her husband leads as Pastor.

“District Attorney Diana Becton faced a clear conflict of interest and put her and her husband’s own interests above her duty to defend a 14-year-old girl who was victimized in our community,” said Mary Knox, candidate for Contra Costa County District Attorney, “Becton’s unethical involvement in the case demonstrates her continuing failure to recuse herself from criminal cases in which she has a personal interest in the outcome. Her actions and this case should be thoroughly investigated by the California Attorney General immediately so that the victim and her family can finally seek the justice they deserve.”

Jesse Armstrong, a former Youth Choir Director at Bethlehem Mission Baptist Church of Richmond was hired and managed by Pastor Alvin Bernstine, the Husband of Contra Costa DA Diana Becton. Armstrong was hired despite the fact that a simple background check would reveal his history of sexual abuse of multiple minors in a church setting. Armstrong is currently in prison serving a sentence of 2 years and eight months in connection with his sexual abuse of the girl.

Mary Knox Bio:

Mary Knox has dedicated her life to making Contra Costa County safer. For more than 37 years, Mary has served as an experienced prosecutor and advocate for crime victims. As a lead prosecutor in the District Attorney’s office, Mary has won high profile cases against some of the most notorious criminals in Contra Costa County history. She worked to dismantle the criminal gangs who have preyed upon our most disadvantaged communities, and she has engaged in meaningful violence reduction by instituting effective strategies to reduce crime and prosecute violent criminals. To discourage freeway shootings, she secured $3.5 million for freeway security cameras. She brought in $3.5 million in federal funding to combat sex trafficking. And, after recent smash and grab robberies, Mary developed a three-point plan to hold organized crime syndicates accountable and prevent future crimes.

Born and raised in Walnut Creek, Mary was in the first freshman class at Northgate High School. She went to college at UCLA and then Pepperdine Law School. During law school, Mary worked as a law clerk in the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office in the Sexual Assault Unit and in a second clerkship in the Juvenile Unit. Once Mary graduated from law school, she came home and has worked as a prosecutor in the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s for the past 37 years while raising her son, Darien, as a single mother.

Is this a campaign ad for Mary Knox? My god dude. You don’t even try to hide it anymore. Which is fine I guess, just stop calling yourself a journalist.

John why don’t you ask yourself why in the Fk! The suspect only served 2.5 years for sexually assault a minor. Then look at why Knox is the clear choice here. You are obviously lacking accountability yourself…

The head of their Sexual Assault unit is Paul Graves, a Knox supporter.

Unbelievable that the repeat-offender only received 2.5 years. Mrs. Becton may not have been DA when the incident happened but based on the press release, she was DA during the prosecution. She was a judge at the time of the incident (this could be worse). Notice that the DA does not deny knowing or being in a relationship with the pastor at the time of the incident and prosecution. The DA also did not deny being a member of the church at the time of the incident. Pastors are considered clergy, which I believe are mandatory reporters. I don’t believe the attorney general will investigate because Mrs. Becton was endorsed by the California Democratic Party. This is the same organization that supports AG Bonta and his wife, who is in politics as well. If there was wrongdoing on the pastor’s part, hopefully, it comes to light in the civil case. Don’t get your hopes up for an investigation by CA AG or DA’s office.

Becton needs to go! Apr 28, 2022 - 1:27 pm

Becton is a Soros elect. She is racist and corrupt. She has fired or replaced many of the best in the DAs Office with her own cronies. This includes Larry Wallace who was guilty of multiple sexual harassment claims while working for Kamala Harris. She is despised by all in her office as well as the county staff .
Becton and her inbred , corrupt, left wing politics have placed the entire county at risk. She needs to go!!

Marrying a man whom knowingly hired a sex offender to run his youth choir says a lot about Becton. Most of us wouldn’t go to his church let alone marry him. Agree she is not responsible for the hire, but hard to see where you stand behind a man you were not married to after such a betrayal of youth all while being the DA who should be a victims number one champion.

The incident with her husband happened before she was married to him. But it does make you wonder….Pastor Bernstine’s family has been in the news for years as hard criminals in Richmond. Maybe that’s why he became a pastor? Wow. Shocking. The Bernstine family criminals must be getting easy sentences!
